    Know all men by these presents that I John Trousdale of
the State of North Carolina Orange County for and In consideration
of the sum of One Hundred & fifty pounds current money to
me in hand paid by Joseph Allison of the state and County
aforesaid the receipt whereof I do hereby ackno[w]ledge, have Granted
Bargained and sold and by these presents do Grant, Bargain,
["and" x-out] sell & Deliver unto the said Joseph Allison, his Heirs and
assigns One certain negro man named Jess to have & to hold
the said negro man Jess to him the said Joseph Allison his
Heirs & assigns forever and I the said John Trousdale for my
Heirs & Assigns unto him the said Joseph Allison his Heirs
and assigns forever the said negro Jess against the Lawful
claims or demands of any person or persons whatsoever do
Warrant & forever defend ~~ In Witness whereof I have hereunto
set my hand and affixed my seal, this twelfth day of August
One thousand seven hundred and ninety seven ~~~~

                           Orange County Augt Term 1799
    The Execution of the foregoing Bill of Sale from John
Trousdale to Joseph Allison was duly proved in Open
Court by the Oath of Jno. Campbell a subscribing Witness
thereto and Order to be Recorded ~~~ ~~~~  ~~~~
