Ward being of sound mind and memory make this my last will and testament I wish all of my just debts first paid out of my affects[sic] After the payment of my just debts, I give all my negroes to my wife Emeline B. Ward during her natural life; after her death I wish them to be equally divided between the two chil- dren of my Sister Amanda Parker by name Benjamin Harrison and Jesse Edward and the first daughter of Marcus Harris by ["Emeline" x-out] name Emeline Harris. The tract of land upon which I now reside, I leave to my wife Emeline B. Ward, to be at her entire disposal. My tract of land Known as the Snow field tract I leave to Edward Ward Morris son of Robt. F. Morris, I will unto James Glenn the priviledge of living and culti- vating that portion of the Snow field tract which he cultivates the present year with the liberty of fire wood. My tract of land Known as the New Entry I wish to be sold, and the proceeds to go to the payment of my debts. I leave my wife Emeline B. Ward all my house-hold and kitchen furniture to be at her entire disposal. I wish all my horses, cows, sheep, hogs, plan- tation tools of every kind, & Carriage sold the proceeds thereof to be appropriated to the payment of my debts, the bal- [page 3] ance if any to be equally divided be- tween my wife Emeline B. Ward and the two children of my Sister Amanda Parker, and Emeline Harris daughter of Marcus Harris. My waggon I leave to my wife Eme- line B. Ward, to dispose of as she thinks proper. Ward Decd was duly proved in open Corurt by the oaths of Absalom Turrentine & Daniel Turrentine two of the subscribing witness es thereto & ordered to be recorded At the Same time Harrison Parker the Executor therein named appeared in open court & qualified according to law Test Additional Comments: Will Book Volume F, pages 286-288 Recorded Aug 1846 Estate Papers comprise 94 pages and are found in a folder labeled "Ward, E J (1846)". The court granted the executor two requests to sell slaves, listed above, but details of the sale, amounts, purchaser, etc. are not found here. [Estate Papers - Ex parte petition for sale of slaves - Feb 1849] Harrison Parker Exr. "be allowed to dispose at public sale to the highest bidder on a reasonable credit two negroes belonging to the estate of the said deceaesd by the names of Big Henry and Little Henry" [Estate Papers - Ex parte petition for sale of slaves - May 1849] ..."be allowed to dispose at public sale to the highest bidder on a reasonable credit three by the names of Alfred Tena and Chloe"
