I Elizabeth Washington widow of the late John Washington of New-Berne of sound and dispo- sing mind and memory, and in the enjoyment of usual health, deem it prudent to make this my last Will and Testament, hereby revoking all other Wills by me at any time heretofore made. Imprimis. I leave my burial, and the arraignment of the funeral ceremonies to the discretion of my Exec- utor, trusting that they will be plain, simple and christian like, as becomes the character I have endeav- oured to maintain through life Touching the worldly estate wherewith God has blessed me, after the payment of funeral expenses, and my just debts, which will be found few in number and small in amount my will and desire is that is shall be disposed of as follows, viz. 1. I give to the children of my deceased son [page 2] James Augustus Washington M.D. late of the City of New York the sum of One Thousand Dollars, to be equally divided among them Share and Share alike 2. I give to my daughter Mrs Eliza Knox, the sum of Three Thousand Dollars 3. I give to my Executor, the sum of Two Thousand Dollars, in special trust and confidence, that he will invest the same in permanent and safe funds, to be applied to the use and benefit of the Baptist church in Hillsborough or elsewhere, at such time and in such manner, as my daughter Susan, may direct, and if she shall die without having disposed of all or any Part of the same, then and in that case I give the said fund ,or such part of it, as may remain undisposed of to the Trustees of Wake Forest College, for the use and benefit of that Institution 4. Lastly.-- Having hereto fore made such [page 3] advancements, to all my other children as I deemed right and proper,-- I give devise and bequeath, all the remainder and residue of my estate real and personal in pos- session or action, wheresoever the same may be situate to my son in law William A. Graham and his heirs forever, one third with the exception of two negroes men hereinafter named, for his own benefit and behalf, and the remaining two thirds and two negroe men Henderson and Edward in trust for the sole and separate use and benefit of his wife, my daughter Susan with full authority of my said daughter to dispose of the whole or any part thereof during her life, and at her decease by any writing in the nature of a will, in such manner and to such person or uses, as she may desire I nominate and appoint my son in law William A.
