In the name of God Amen, I James
Watson sen'r of the County of Orange and
State of North carrolina, being weake in
Body, but sound memory and Judgement
thanks be unto God therefor, do this four=
=teenth day of July in the year of our Lord
one thousand Eight hundred and thirteen make
and ordain this my last will and Testament
in manner following;

Imprimis My will is after all my Just depts[sic]
are paid that all my Estate co[n]sisting
of Seven Negroes Viz Charrity Hannah Grant
Celey Yackney[Zackrey?], Sarrie and Nelly them and
their Increase I give and bequeath to my
beloved wife Margaret Watson during her natu=
=ral life also all my horses hoggs Cattle house
hold and kitchen furniture all residue of
my Estate to her during natural life ~~~

Item I give and bequeath to my Sister in law
Ellenor Wittie fifty dollars after the
death of my wife Margaret

Item I give and bequeath after the death of
my beloved wife Margaret all my above
mentioned Estate to my Eight dearly
beloved childring     to wit

Helen Riley James Watson Rebecca Watson
Elizabeth Comb Andrew Watson Nancy Watson
John Watson and Robert Watson to be
Equally devided amongst my affore said
Childring to them and their heirs for Ever

Item my Will is that the share which
which[sic] I have above named to my
daughter Helen Riley after her death
be Equally devided between her three
children Viz, Washington Riley Elizabeth
Riley Rachel Riley to them and their heirs
for Ever

Lastly I Make and ordain my trusty and
well beloved friends My wife Margaret and
my son in Law John Combs Executors
of this my last will and Testament here
by revokeing all former Wills by me made
in Witness wher[e]of I the said James Watson
have hereunto set my hand and s[e]al
the day and year above written       his

this my last Will and Testament in manner following ~~~~

Imprimis My will is after all my Just debts are paid that all
my Estate consisting of Seven Negroes Viz Charity, Hannah,
Grant, Celia Yackney, Larrie[Sarrie], & Nelly, them & their increase I
give and bequeath to my beloved Wife Margaret Watson during
her natural life Also all my Horses, Hogs, Cattle, Household
and Kitchen furniture all residue of my Estate to her during
natural life ~~~ Item I give and bequeath to my Sister in law
Elleanor Wittie fifty dollars after the death of my Wife Margaret

Item I give and bequeath after the death of my beloved Wife
Margaret all my above mentioned Estate to my eight dearly beloved
Children, to wit, Helen Riley, James Watson, Rebecca Watson, Eliza
=beth Comb, Andrew Watson, Nancy Watson, John Watson & Robert Watson, to be equally
divided amongst my aforesaid Children, to them & their heirs
forever ~~~ Item, My Will is that the share which I have above
named to my daughter Helen Riley after her death be equally
divided between her three children, Viz., Washington Riley Elizabeth
Riley, Rachel Riley, to them & their heirs forever ~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Lastly I make and Ordain my trusty & well beloved friends my
Wife Margaret and my Son in Law John Combs Executors of this
my last Will & testament, hereby revoking all former Wills by
me made ~~~ In Witness whereof I the said James Watson have
hereunto set my hand & Seal the day and year above written

                                  Orange County August Term 1813
The Execution of the foregoing last Will & Testament of James Watson Senr Decd
was duly proved in open Court by the Affirmation of Abner Bailiff a
subscribing Witness thereto & order[ed] to be recorded, at the Same time
the Exceeding therein named were qualified

Estate Papers comprise 10 pages and are found in a folder labeled "Watson, James, Sr. (1813)", but the names of the executor (John Comb), widow (Margaret), legatees, etc., do not match.
