In Consideration of one Hundred and Seventy pounds to one in hand paid by John Williams esq. of Chatham County at or before the sealing and delivery of theese presents the receipt whereof I do hereby acknowledge and thereof do acquit release and discharge[?] John Williams his heirs Executors and administrators for ever by theese presents Have Bargained Sold and delivered and by theese presents do bargane[sic] sell and deliver unto the said Jno. Williams his Executors Administrators and assigns and negroes woman an[sic] Slave named Mary (eldery[?]) and one Negro girl name Amy the daughter of the said Mary which girl is about the age of Eleven years And I the said William Shepperd do for myself My heirs Executors and Admors hereby warrent the said slaves and each of them to the said John Williams his Executors Administrators and assigns against all persons whomsoever and that the said slaves and each of them are and is sound sensible hearthey[sic] and free from every kind of disorder and fits In witness whereof I the said Shepperd ["have" x-out] [Will Book Volume A, page 378] have hereunto set my hand and seal ["my seal" x-out] the first day of March one thousand seven Hundred and Eighty Eight Wm Shepperd (seal) Sealed and delivered in presence } of S.
