the name of God Amen I William Wolf of the County of Orange and State of North Carolina being Very Sick and Weak in body but of perfect mind and memory thanks be Given Unto God therefore Calling Unto mind the mortallity of my body and Knowing that it is appointed for all men Once to die do make and Ordain this my Last Will and Testament That is principally And first of All I give and recommend my Soul into into the hands of God that Gave it and for my body I Recommend it to the Earth to be buried in a Christian Like manner at the Descretion of my Executors hoping at the General Resurrection I Shall Receive the Same by the mighty power of God and touching Such Worldly Estate wherewith it hath pleased God to bless me with in the Life I Give and devise and dispose of the Same in the following manner and form ~~~~~ Item it is my Will in the first place that all my Just debts and funeral Charges be paid I Give and bequeath Unto my beloved Wife Ann the plantation Wher[e]on I now Live with all the profits Arising therefrom during her widowhood or till my youngest Son Comes of age and Should She marry then I allow her to have a Childs part [page 2] I Will and bequeath Unto my three Sons Peter John and William the Said plantation whereon I now Live to be Equally devided at the time of Youngest Son William Comes of Age I Give and bequeath Unto my daughter Barbara and Mary one bed and furniture too[two] Cows one horse Saddle and bridle to be Valued at Sixty dollars to Each of them and Likewise Should there be any property Remaining at my Youngest Sons Coming of Age I allow that to be Equally devided between my too[two] daughters I do Allow my Negro boy Frank to Serve my Wife Ann till he arrives to the age of Twenty Eight years and then to be hired Out till he pays my Wife the money that he cost when he was bought and then to be free and have his Own Liberty and the money that Comes for Said Negro to Remain in the hands of my Wife as Long as She Remain my Widow and to be at her disposal and Should she marry Said money to be Equally devided amongst my Sons and daughters [page 3] This my Last Will and testament I do Ordain And hereby disallow Revoke all and Every Other Wolf Decd was duly proved in Open Court by the Oath of Benjn. Jackson one of the subscribing witnesses thereto and ordered to be recorded ~~~~~~ Additional Comments: Will Book Volume D, pages 237-238 Recorded Nov 1808 Estate Papers comprise six pages and are found in a folder labeled "Wolf, William (1809)" [Estate Papers - Petition for Emancipation of Frank, Mar 1825] To the Honorable the Judge of the Superior Court of Law for Orange County: The Petition of Joseph Clendenen & George Foust & of Negro Frank: Humbly petitioning, shew unto your Honor your petitioners, all of Orange County That your petitioner Frank was, in the life time of William Wold, the slave of siad William; that the said William made his last Will & testament in writing bearing date the 19th day of June 1808 & thereby, with the tings bequeathed that your petitioner Frank should serve Ann Wolf, Wife of said William, until said Frank should arrive to the age of twenty-eight years & then be hired out unto he paid said Ann the money he cost when he was bought & should then have his freedom; and the said William appointed [~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ x-out ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~] no Executors of said Will: And your petitioners further shew that said William died shortly thereafter at Orange County without revoking or altering said Will & that after his death your petitioners George & Joseph [x-out] caused the said Will to be duly proved in Orange County Court at November Term A.D. 1808 & obtained letters of Administration with the will appen[d]ed to be issue to them: You petitioners further shew that the Testators gave [a]foresaid Frank the Sum of Two Hundred & forty one Dollars & that since said Frank arrive to the age to twenty-eight years he hath by his labor & hire earned the said Sum of Two Hundred & forty-one Dollars ~~~~, which your petition -ers Joseph & George have paid to the said Ann & fully contented her: They fur -ther shew that said Franklin hath been & is a good & faithful servant & upright man & by his meritorious services to his mater & his widow is justly deserving of the Emancipation which said William decd. benificiently intended for him & which you petitioners George & Joseph [x-out] sworn duty as Execu -tors of said Will believe they ought & endeavour to obtain; And they now pray your Honor to grant the Same under such terms & conditions as to you shall deem meet: And your petitioners will every pray &c Jo.
