ORANGE COUNTY, NC - WILLS - John Woods, 27 Jun 1808 --------------¤¤¤¤¤¤-------------- Will Book D. p 393 June 27th, 1808 Hillsboro, Orange County, N.C. In the name of God Amen. I, JOHN WOODS of the state of North Carolina and County of Orange, being weak in body but of sound mind and memory, thanks be to God for his mercies -- calling to mind the mortality of men and knowing that it is appointed unto all men to die, principally and first of all I commend my soul unto the hands of God who gave it to me and my body to the earth to be interred in a Christian and decent manner at the discretion of my executor, never doubting but at the resurrection I shall receive the same again my the mighty power of God. And as touching the good things of this life wherewith it has pleased God to bless me, I dispose of in the following manner, viz. to my beloved wife ANN WOODS I give and bequeath rooms westwards of the house in which I now live, also two chests, one bed and table with sufficient furniture for each -- one cow and calf, four sheep, one horse of her own choice with saddle, one negro woman named HANNAH, together with decent maintenance out of my property while she liveth, which property I ordain to be sold after her death and the money arising therefore to be equally divided among all my children. To my grandson DAVID WOODS son of SAMUEL, I give and bequeath fifty dollars, to be put to interest until he comes of age, which money is to be the proceeds of sales-- I give and bequeath my watch to my son DAVID WOODS a separate article from general divisions. Also I ordain that my negro man JIM be emancipated and comfortably supported at the expense of my children. Finally I ordain and bequeath that the land on which I live, together with all the property not mentioned above be sold as soon as convenient and the money arising from such sales (all my lawful debts being first discharged) be equally divided among all my children viz. WILLIAM WOODS, JOHN WOODS, SAMUEL WOODS AND THOMAS WOODS except JOSEPH WOODS alias JOSEPH BALDRIDGE. I give and bequeath the two thirds of that part of my estate willed as above to my son JOHN WOODS.
