I Handy Wood of the County of Orange & state of North Carolina being in a feeble state of body under the afflicting hand of Providence & feeling desirous of arranging my temporal Concerns - make this my last Will & Testament as follows To wit - 1st I give & bequeath to [my] beloved wife Julia, all the property which I possess - both real & personal Except such as shall hereinafter be disposed of - to be hers as long as she remains my widow - But if she should marry again - It is my Will, that all my property be equally divided then among all my Children and my wife to receive a childs part in the division of all my personal property - but she is to receive no part or portion of my real Estate -.- 2nd I give & bequeath to my daughter Betsy Fifty Dollars in money & one negro woman named Lucy and Two beds & bedding which she made - to be hers & her heirs forever - 3rd I give & bequeath to my daughter Margaret one Horse worth Thirty-five Dollars, one bureau - two pair bed steads - and two beds & bedding which she has made to be hers & her heirs forever - 4th I give & bequeath to my son Madison one grey Colt 2 years old - and one Saddle & Bridle worth fourteen Dollars - to be his and his heirs forever - 5th I give & bequeath to my son, Henry Levin one yearling colt - also one Saddle & bridle to be given him hereafter to be his & his heirs forever - 6th It is my Will that each of my younger children not above named or mentioned, as they shall become of age, shall have fifty Dollars worth of my property - valued to them at fair valuation by three disinterested men - 7th If any servants are disobedient to my wife and [page 2] family I direct my Executors to hire them out, for the use & benefit of my family - 8th I direct my Executors to pay all my just & lawful debts and if they cannot do this without selling property - I direct them to sell such property as can best be spared by my family until the same are duly discharged-.- 9th I acknowledge myself indebted to my son Henry Levin Ten Dollars, which I direct my Executors to pay-.- 10th I hereby appoint & constitute my wife Julia my Executrix & my son Madison Executor to this my last Will & Testament Signed & Sealed - This 8th day of August 1846 In presence of---- Seymour Puryear Handy Wood (seal) Michl.
