I give and bequeath to my Daughter Elisabeth One Negro girl called Phillis, and at my descease and the decease of my wife One Negro Boy called Abram to her and her heirs forever I give and bequeath to my daughter Mary Ann Wood One Negro Wench and her increase, to her and her heirs forever I give and bequeath to my Grand Son Hugh Riggs, Son of George Riggs & Rebeckah his wife One Negro girl Called Edy to him and his heirs forever, Reserving one half of her increase to Milly Daughter of the said Rebeckah Riggs & Sister to the said Hugh, to descend to her and her heirs forever, but provided the said Negro should have no increase, I will that the said Negro Eda shall be the Joint property of the said Hugh & Milly share and share [page 2] Alike, but if the said Hugh should depart this life before he Arrives to lawful age my will is that his share of the said Negro or other increase shall be the property of the above said Milly Woods my Grand Daughter her and her heirs forever and in Case the said Child Milly should die in her minority I will that the said Negro or other increase shall descend to her lawful heirs. I give and bequeath to my son Joseph, Elihu and Sarah, the following Negroes Called & Known by the names of Hannah Suke and Jack to them or their respective heirs forever share and share alike, after my decease and the decease of my wife - I do further give and bequeath to my Grandson Hugh Riggs a Horse Creature and Bed - I do further give and bequeath to my Daughters Susannah Sarah, Elisabeth Mary Ann, and Grand Daughter Milly all my Stock of Horses Cattle Hogs Sheep and household furniture share and share alike - Provided Never the less that the said Land & plantation and the above named Negroes, to wit Hannah, Sook & Jack and Harry with the said live Stock and they are hereby set apart and Reserved for the sole use & Benefit of my Beloved wife Mary Wood during her Natural life, if she should survive me, all my working Tools and Utensils of husbandry I give to my Sons share and share alike after the death of my wife if she should survive me--- I nominate and appoint my beloved wife Executrix, my son in law James Faucett Executor of this my last will and Testament and I do hereby revoke and disannul all and every will heretofore by me made. Estate Papers comprise 70 pages in a folder labeled "Woods, Hugh (1803)" From Petition for an Account & Distribution, dated Aug 1825: Your Petitioners Shew that the said Hugh Woods left the following Children, to Wit, Susannah, who married James Faucett since deceased; John Woods, Rebecah how married George Riggs, and she and her Husband are dead, leaving two children, Amelia Riggs & Hugh Riggs; Sarah who married Charles Ray since Deceased; Elizabeth, who married Samuel Woods: Mary Ray, who hath died intestate and Administration of her estate hath been granted to Richardson Nichols; Elihu, ???? who hath since died, and Robert Faucett is the Executor of his will ~~ And the Aforesaid Susannah Faucett Amelia Riggs Joseph Woods, Samuel Woods and Elizabeth his Wife, Richardson Nicols & Robert Faucett, reside in Orange County in this State; And the Said John Woods, High Riggs, Sarah Ray reside in Tennessee; [Estate Papers - Doctors Bill for Slave Abram 1817] Mr. Hugh Woods, I find on looking over my books [x-out] that I attended on Abram, a negro man which I understood you hired of your grandmother, in 1816, The charge against you in the book is ten dollars which you have paid me, as you are credited with that sum in cash, but where we were when you paid me that I cannot recollect but it was in 1817. I may have attended on Abram at some other time if I did, I neglected to enter his name as I did in 1816 I have no recollection of ever so doing - I am confident you paid me from the entries in my book for 1816 Agre[e]ably to custom, and from my entries you are entitled to a credit of ten dollars with the Administrator I am, sir with respect yours Currie Barnett Sepr. 11th 1825 State of North Carolina } } This day Come before me Hugh Woods and Person County } made oath that he paid doctor Currie Barnet the Sum of Ten Dollars in the year of 1817 for his attendance on Negro Abram the property of his Grandmother Mary Woods at the time said Abram was in his employ with said sum with the Interest thereon amounts to the Sum of Fourteen Dollars and Eighty Cents Sign'd Sealed and dated this 12th day of September 1825 ~~~~~ Witness $14 80/100 Hugh Woods Thomas Webb [Estate Papaers - Receipt for Jack (undated)] Joseph Woods Exr of the Estate of Hugh Woods Decd. & Executor of the last Will & testament of Mary Woods Decd.
