All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/nc/ncfiles.htm ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: Ben Franklin ben.franklin.ffru@gmail.com May 2024 Source: Loose Will, NC Archives CR 073.801, Will Book Volume D, pages 393-395 Written: June 27, 1808 Recorded: Nov 1813 Testator: John Woods June 29 1808 In the name of God Amen ----- I, John Woods of the state of North Carolina and County of Orange being weak in body but of sound mind and memory thanks be to God for his mercies - calling to mind the mortality of man & knowing that it is appointed unto all to die do ordain this my last will and testament that is to say principally & first of all I commit my soul into the hands of God who gave it me, & my body to the earth to be intered in a christian & decent man- ner, at the discretion of my executor, nothing doubt- ing but at the general resurrection I shall receive the same again my the mighty power of God, And as touching the good things of life wherewith it hath pleased God to bless me, I dispose of in the following manner (Viz) to my beloved wife Ann Woods I give & bequeath the room westwards of the house in which I now live, also two chests, one bed & table with sufficient furniture for each, one cow & calf, four sheep, one horse of her own choice, with saddle, one negro woman named Hanah, toge- ther with a decent maintenance out of my property while she liveth, which property I ordain to be sold after her death & the moneys arising therefrom to be equally divided among all my children--- [page 2] To my grand son David Woods son of Samuel I give & bequeath fifty dollars to be put to interest untill he comes of age, which money is to be the proceeds of sales--further I give and bequeath my watch to my son David Woods a sepi- rate article from general division -- Also I ordain that my negro man Jim be emancipated & comfortably supported at the expense of my children.--- Finally I ordain and appoint that the land on which I live together with all the property not mentioned above be sold as soon as convenient & the money arrising from such sales (all my lawful debts being first discharged) be equally divided among all my chil- dren (Viz) William Woods, John Woods, Samuel Woods, David Woods, & Thomas Woods, except Joseph Woods alias Joseph Baldridge.
