STATE OF NORTH CAROLINA--Pamlico County, THIS DEED, Made this Sixth day of January 1916 by James Kenyear and Wife, Cleora Kenyear of Pamlico County and State of North Carolina of the first part to J.L. Gatlin of Pamlico County and State of North Carolina of the second part. WITNESSETH, That said James Kenyear and Wife, Cleora Kenyear, in consideration of Ten & 00/100 Dollars, to them paid by J.L. Gatlin the receipt of which is hereby acknowledged have bargained and sold, and by these presents do bargain, sell and convey to said J.L. Gatlin and his heirs a certain tract or parcel of land, in Pamlico County and State of North Carolina adjoining the lands of J.L. Hahn and others, bounded as follows, viz.: Lying in Pamlico County on the South side of Bay River and West side of Alligator Creek. Beginning at the Northeast corner of the tract of land purchased by Joseph Hahn from the heirs of James O. Baxter, deceased, and runs with the Baxter line North 67 50¹ West about 40 poles to the East edge of the Ferebee road and 5 feet North of the Northwest corner of the old Baxter field thence with the East edge of the Ferebee road North 21 33¹ East 480 1/2 feet to a stake on the East edge of the Ferebee road; thence with a line of marked trees South 88 10¹ East 2179 feet to the run of Alligator Creek; thence up and with the various courses of said run to the beginning, containing 24 acres more or less. TO HAVE AND TO HOLD the aforesaid tract or parcel of land, and all privileges and appurtenances thereunto belonging to the said J.L. Gatlin his heirs and assigns, to their only use and behoof forever. And the said James Kenyear and Wife, Cleora Kenyear, covenant with said J.L. Gatlin and his heirs and assigns, that they are seized of said premises in fee, and have right to convey the same in fee-simple; that the same are free and clear from all incumbrances, and that they will warrant and defend the said title to the same against the claims of all persons whomsoever. Kenyear and, Cleora Kenyear, his wife, personally appeared before me this day, and acknowledged the due execution of the annexed Deed of Conveyance, and the said Cleora Kenyear being by me privately examined, separate and apart from her said husband touching her voluntary execution of the same doth state that she signed the same freely and voluntarily, without fear compulsion of her said husband or any other person, and that she doth till voluntarily assent thereto.
