STATE OF NORTH CAROLINA, Pamlico County, THIS DEED made this 24th day of December 1917 by Jesse C. Gatlin & wife Alice L. Gatlin of Washington County and State of North Carolina of the first part to James L. Gatlin of Pamlico County and State of North Carolina of the second part. WITNESSETH: That said Jesse C. Gatlin & wife Alice L. Gatlin, in consideration of Five Hundred & 00/100 Dollars, to them paid by James L. Gatlin the receipt of which is hereby acknowledged have bargained and sold, and by these presents do bargain, sell and convey to said James L. Gatlin and his heirs and assigns, a certain tract or parcel of land in No. 2 Township Pamlico County State of North Carolina adjoining the lands of A.R. Gatlin and others, bounded as follows, viz.: Beginning at a point on the Ferebee Road about 1150 feet Southwardly from the Northwest corner of the Bradford Gatlin-Nichols tract, and from a proposed ditch (to lead from the ditch running in front of the Bradford Gatlin old Residence) and runs with the Ferebee Road South 30 02¹ West about 8270 feet to the back line f the Tract known as the Nichols Land; Thence South 71 58¹ East about 40 feet to the second slip ditch extended which will take in the width of two Slipes; Thence running with the second slipe ditch North 30 02¹East, and parallel with the first line about 3200 feet to the proposed ditch Westwardly about 400 feet to the beginning, containing about Thirty (30) acres, more or less. This Tract of land is a part of the Nichols Tract, is two cuts wide, and lies on the East side of the Ferebee Road. Excepting however a right-of-way fifteen feet wide across the North end of the above described tract. The intent of this deed is to convey my entire interest in the Gatlin estate on the head of Alligator Creek to to date, to Jas L. Gatlin TO HAVE AND TO HOLD the aforesaid tract or parcel of land, and all privileges and appurtenances thereunto belonging to the said James L. Gatlin, his heirs and assigns, to their only use and behoof forever. AND THE SAID Jesse C. Gatlin & wife Alice L. Gatlin covenant to and with the said James L. Gatlin his heirs and assigns forever that they are seized of said premises in fee simple; that same are free from all incumbrances, and that they will will warrant and defend the said title to the same against the claims of all persons whatsoever. Gatlin being by me privately examined, separate and apart from her said husband touching her voluntary execution of the same doth state that she signed the same freely and voluntarily, without fear compulsion of her said husband or any other person, and that she doth till voluntarily assent thereto.
