STATE OF NORTH CAROLINA--Pamlico County, THIS DEED made this 22d day of January 1918 by R.H. Baxter and wife, Victoria J. Baxter of Pamlico County and State of North Carolina of the first part to J.L. Gatlin of Pamlico County and State of North Carolina of the second part. WITNESSETH, That said R.H. Baxter and wife, Victoria J. Baxter, in consideration of One & 00/100 Dollars and other Valuable Consideration, to them paid by JL. Gatlin the receipt of which is hereby acknowledged have bargained and sold, and by these presents do bargain, sell and convey to said J.L. Gatlin heirs a certain tract or parcel of land, in Pamlico County and State of North Carolina adjoining the lands of ____________________________________________ and others, bounded as follows, viz.: On the North by Alligator Creek, on the East by the lands of Morris Daniel; on the South by the lands of Ellen Gatlin; and on the West by the lands of Ellen Gatlin, containing Twenty-six acres more or less, it being the land conveyed in the will of Tully Spruill to the heirs of Alice Casey, and described in a deed from H.T. Casey and others to V.J. Baxter and recorded in Book 42, Page 371. Also in a deed from Alice Casey and husband and Sophronia Fentress and husband to V.J. Baxter recorded in Book 44, Page 202 of records of Pamlico County. TO HAVE AND TO HOLD the aforesaid tract or parcel of land, and all privileges and appurtenances thereto belonging to the said J.L. Gatlin his heirs and assigns, to their only use and behoof forever. And the said R.H. Baxter and wife, Victoria J. Baxter covenant with said J.L. Gatlin his heirs and assigns, that they are seized of said premises in fee, and have right to convey the same in fee-simple, that the same are free and clear from all incumbrances, and that they will warrant and defend the said title to the same against the claims of all persons whomsoever. Baxter being by me privately examined, separate and apart from her said husband touching her voluntary execution of the same doth state that she signed the same freely and voluntarily, without fear compulsion of her said husband or any other person, and that she doth till voluntarily assent thereto.
