Arrested Third Time - W.O. Saunders Again Held on Criminal Libel Charges

Elizabeth City, July 19 - W.O. Saunders, editor of The Independent, was 
arrested Thursday afternoon by Sheriff Reid upon a warrant from Chowan County 
sworn out by E.F. Aydlett of this city, charging him with criminal libel.

Sheriff Reid took Mr. Saunders to Edenton and delivered him to the sheriff of 
that county. This arrest grew out of a publication which appeared in The 
Independent several weeks ago which Mr. Aydlett alleges is defamatory and 
libellous.

This is the third time that Mr. Saunders has been arrested on charges of libel 
preferred by Mr. Aydlett.
