W. p.297 Joseph JACKSON & wife Mariann Raper JACKSON to Caleb RAPER 29 July 1822 This Indenture made the 29 day of July in the Year our Our Lord One Thousand Eight Hundred & twenty two between Joseph JACKSON & wife Mariam JACKSON of the County of Pasquotank & State of North Carolina of the first part & Caleb RAPER of the County & State aforesaid of the other part Witnesseth that for & in consideration of the sum of two hundred dollars to them the said Joseph JACKSON, & wife Mariann JACKSON in hand paid by the sd. Caleb RAPER, the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged, they the said Joseph & wife Mariam JACKSON, hath granted bargained sold, conveyed & confirmed & by these present doth grant bargain sell convey & confirm & set over unto the said Caleb RAPER one —— or certain part of a tract of land, situate, lying & being in the County & State aforesaid, in the north east side of Little River, containing seventeen & a half acres more or less. It being all the lands, that the said Mariam JACKSON, formerly RAPER, heired from her dec’d father John RAPER, bounding on the lands of Robert RAPER on the northwest side & the lands of John RAPER on the north east side, with all the appurtenances & hereditaments thereunto belonging or in anywise whatsoever. To have & to hold all the above granted & bargained premises unto he same belonging or in any wise appertaining unto the said Caleb RAPER his heirs & assigns to his & their own proper use benefits & behoof forever, free and clear from the lawful claim or demands of any person or persons whatsoever & they the said Joseph & wife Mariam JACKSON doth for themselves their heirs & assigns will warrant & forever defend the said granted & bargained premises with the appurtenances unto sd. Caleb RAPER & his heirs & assigns forever. In witness, whereof the sd. Joseph & wife Mariam JACKSON hath to there presents set their hands & seals the day & date above written. Joseph C. JACKSON & Mirriam JACKSON was exhibited & acknowledged in open Court & on Motion ordered that William MARTIN, Esquire, a member of & now presiding at the Court be appointed to take the private examination of the said Merriam as to her voluntary apart thereto, who reported that she executed the same of her own free will & record from any compulsion of her said husband, & that she — within all her right & title to the premises ordered to be registered.
