Marriage Bond Book
STATE OF NORTH CAROLINA
Pasquotank County
KNOW ALL MEN BY THESE PRESENTS That we THOMAS ALLEN, HORTIAO(?) CLUFF & JAS. 
ALLEN are held and firmly bound unto his Excellency _______________________
(Blank) Exquire, Governor, Captain General and Commander in Chief of the State 
aforesaid, in the just and full sum of Five Hundred Pounds current money of 
the State aforesaid, to be paid to his said Excellency the Governor, his 
successors or assigns. To the which payment well and truly to be made, we do 
bind ourselves and each of us, our and(sic) each of our Heirs, Executors, 
Administrators and Assigns, jointly and severally, firmly by those presents. 
Sealed with our seals, and dated this 15 Day of January one thousand eight 
hundred and thirty six.
 THE CONDITION OF THIS OBLIGATION IS SUCH, That whereas the above bounden 
THOMAS ALLEN hath made application for a License for a Marriage to be 
celebrated between him and _____________________HARWOOD(?) of the County of 
Pasquotank.
   Now in case it shall not appear hereafter that there is any lawful cause to 
obstruct the said Marriage, then this obligation to be void, otherwise to 
remain in full force and virtue.
