John Jones Isack Jones John Cammill North Carolina The within Last Will and Testament of Jeremiah Murden was proved by the oath of John Jones and Isaac Jones two of the subscribing witnesses therein and Robert Murden the Executor appointed by the said Will qualified by taking the oath appointed(?) by Law. Given under my hand at Court this this 20th day of November 1750 Gab(riel) Johnson It is believed that this Jeremiah Murden was the son of John Murden of Norfolk County, Virginia. It is not known exactly when Jeremiah came to Pasquotank County but in a deed dated 6 January 1712/13 his wife Mary is also mentioned. The wife of Jeremiah Murden (Mary (Cartwright) Murden, is not named in his 1745 will. Neither is she named in the deeds to Jeremiah, Jr. in 1737 nor in the deed of grant to his son, John, 25 September 1745. It would appear that Mary died before 1737. Jeremiah Murden, Jr. is not mentioned in the will but Jeremiah, Sr. had deeded to Jeremiah, Jr. 182 acres "...N.E. Side of Pasquotank River & joining on the Mouth of Sawyer's Creek commonly known or called the name of William Jennings Plantation...". 11 December 1737, Pasquotank County. No property is given to Jeremiah Murden's son John in his will but on 25 September 1741 Jeremiah gave to son John 100 acres "tract of land...on the S.W. Side of Pasquotank River...commonly Known or called by the Great Island or Lodwick Gray's Plantation ..." Jeremiah Murden's daughter, Elizabeth (Murden) Spence, is not named in his will. From the court document filed by her husband, Joseph Spence in July, 1752, it would appear that Elizabeth died about 1740-1741. Elizabeth's daughter, Mary, is mentioned in Jeremiah's will. Her son, Jeremiah Spence, is not mentioned in the will but was given 80 acres by Jeremiah Murden in a deed dated 4 March 1745.
