K1, p. 32 Will of Josiah RAPER Probated July 1762 In the Name of God, Amen the 20th Day of February in the year of our Lord 1762. I Josiah RAPER of North Carolina in the County of Pasquotank, Planter being very sick & weak in Body but Perfect & sound & memory thanks be given unto God for the same & failing to mind & the Mortality of my body & knowing that it is appointed for all men once to die do make ordain this my Last Will & Testament that is to say ——— by & first of all & give & recommend my soul into the hands of God that gave it & for my body I commend it to the earth to be buried in the a Christian like & decent manner at the discretion of my Executors nothing doubting but at the general —— Resurrection I shall receive the same again but he Mighty Power of God & touching such Worldly Estate Where with it hath pleased? God to bless me in this life, I give, Devise & Dispose of the same in the following manner & form following that is to say. In the first place I give to Mary my Dearly beloved Wife two cows & two yearlings one old cow & one heifer & one Bull. Item: Also I give to my son Cornelus RAPER one cow called white face one heifer two —— one case of bottles one long gun & two sows & seven pigs one ewe one bay mare & one broad axe & one great ——— the land whereon I now live to him & his heirs forever——— also I give to my daughter Penelope RAPER one cow called pie? & one red white face heifer & one black sow & three pigs & one pewter bacon & one basin & one small iron Pott.— also I give to my son Benja. RAPER one cow called good luck & one red & white ewe heifer & —— sow & three pigs & one ewe & one stock of bees & one mill & one handsaw & one wing knife & one hammer & one small gun & one puter basin. I also give to my daughter Margaret RAPER one cow called full pale & one black heifer & one wether? & one pewter dish & half a dozen of puter plates. Also I give to Mary my Wife all the remaining part of my Estate to her & her disposal. Also I Nominate Constitute & appoint my true & well beloved wife Mary RAPER & my friend Henry RAPER, Exec. of this my Last Will & Testament I do hereby utterly disallow Revoke & Disanulling all & every other former testament, wills, legacies & bequests & Execrs by me before this time in any ways named willed & bequeathed notifying confirming this & no other to be my Last Will & Testament. In Witness where of I have hereunto set my hand & seal the Day & year above Written. Present His Majesties Justices These may Certify that Henry BAILEY & Vincent BENTON appeared in Open Court and made oath on the Holy Evangelist of alright God that they were present and saw Josiah RAPER sign seal publish pronounce and declare the above to be and contain his last will and testament & that he was at that time of sound and disposing memory & that they also saw John BAILY the other Witness sign his name thereto at the same time then appeared Mary RAPER Executrix and was duly Qualified Ordered that the Honorable Richard SPEIGHT, Esquire Secretary have notice so that letters may issue.
