Will of Isaac Stokeley

In the name of God Amen, I Isaac Stokeley being of sound mind and perfect 
memory (blessed be to God) do this thirty-first day of March in the year of 
our lord eighteen hundred and eight make and publish this my last Will and 
Testament in manner and form following that is to say - First I will as much 
of my perishable estate as will be sufficient to pay all my just debts at the 
discretion of my Executor.

Secondly I give and bequeath to my wife Lydia Stokeley all the use of my 
moveable and perishable property excepting nothing that I am now possessed of, 
to the use of supporting herself and children only during her being my widow.  
Also the priviledge and the use of all my Land during her Widowhood, also our 
feather bed and furniture, one cow and calf to her and her heirs forever, also 
the use of my Plantation where on I now live until my son Jeremiah M. Stokeley 
arrives to the age of twenty one years and in case said Jeremiah M. Stokeley 
dies under age, untill my son Joshua H. Stokeley arrives at the age of Twenty 
one years.

Thirdly I give and bequeath unto my son Alfred M. Stokeley one half of my 
Plantation in Camden called the Island, one Negroe man Luke, And if said 
Alfred Mou Stokeley dies before having lawful Heirs of his body the said Land 
to fall to my son Joshua Hixon Stokeley and said negro Luke equally between 
the balance of my children.

Forthly I give and bequeath to my son Joshua H. Stokeley one half of my 
Plantation called the Island in Camden County, WoodLand and Cypress swamp, 
equally to be divided between Joshua and Alfred except Pine Timber if wanting 
to support my son Jeremiahs Plantation forever viz the whole Plantation wood 
land Cypress swamps between my two sons Joshua and Alfred excepting rail 
timber if wanting to support the Plantation given to my son Jeremiah.  Also to 
my son Joshua Boy George and should my son Joshua die without lawful Heir from 
his Body his (word ilegible) of land to my son Alfred said boy George equally 
between the balance of my children.

5th.  I give and bequeath unto my son Jeremiah Murden Stokeley the Land and 
Plantation where I now live when arriving at the age of twenty one years.  
Also one negro Boy Smith and should said Jeremiah die without lawful Heir, the 
said land to fall between Alfred and Joshua Stokeley and said boy to the 
balance of all my children left after him.

6th.  I give and bequeath to my Daughter Rhoda Stokeley one Negroe Vitale and 
one half of negros such and her increase after the date of this prescence.

Item 7th.  I give and bequeath unto my Daughter Pegga one Negroe Girl named 
Ferebee on half negro Such and her increase hereafter.

Item 8th.  I give unto my son Alferd one negroe Girl Aney.

Item 9th.  I give and bequeath my Sons Alfred and Joshua all my stock of 
Cattle as they stand or sold and the money divided at the discretion of my 
Executor.  Also between Alfred and Joshua all my Cypress swamps on the South 
side of Abner Whitneys Canal to the river.

10th.  I give to my son Jeremiah all of my Cypress Swamp on the North Side of 
Said Canal and to my line above Davis Brothers. (word illegible) of my Estate 
equally between Alfred and Joshua Stokeley.

I nominate and Appoint my worthy my worthy friend Lydia Stokeley and John Koen 
Gen. Executrix and Executor to this my last will and testament in Witness 
thereof I the said Isaac Stokeley set my hand and Seal the day and year above 
written.

Isaac Stokeley's will was presented in the March, 1811 term of court in 
Pasquotank County by his widow and Executrix Lydia Stokeley.  In the absence 
of witnesses to the will, Thomas Gordon and Noah McPherson affirned that the 
writing and seal was that of Isaac Stokeley.  The will was approved by the 
Court.
