MRS. DORIS BARNHILL EVANOVICH ST. HELENA - Mrs. Doris Barnhill Evanovich, age 69 of 510 East Main St., (St. Helena Vg.) Burgaw departed this life Wednesday morning at her home. Born November 27, 1929 in Pender Co., she was the daughter of the late W.D. and Ella Lee Wallace Barnhill. She was predeceased by her husband, Steve Evanovich in 1985, two brothers, Willie James Barnhill and S.L. Barnhill, and a sister, Lois Mehalko. Doris leaves to cherish her memories a son, David and wife, Linda Evanovich of Greenville, N.C., three daughters and their husbands, Diane and Elbert Newton of Currie, Nancy and Gerald Jones of St. Helena, and Marcie and Joe Powers of Maple Hill, two brothers, Paul and wife, Ida Barnhill and Carl Barnhill all of Atkinson, three sisters, Gladys Burleson and husband, Glenn of Castle Hayne, Grace Lockamy of St. Helena, and Emily and husband, Clyde Millard of Ocean Isle, two grandchildren, Ashleigh and Jared Jones whom she loved dearly, a special brother-in-law, William T. Bannerman, a special friend and caregiver, Patty Blizzard and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be Friday, April 2, 1999, 11:00 a.m. at Harrell's Funeral Home Chapel, and interment will follow in the St. Helena Cemetery, Rev. Phil Eakins will officiate. Pallbearers will be Robert Dean Barnhill, David Barnhill, Joseph Mehalko, Billy Wulzyn, Michael Baines, and Joe Barnhill. Doris devoted her life to her children and grandchildren. She was loved and will be missed dearly by her family and friends. The family will receive friends tonight, Thursday, April 1, 7:00 until 8:30 at Harrell's Funeral Home, Burgaw, ph 910 259-2136.
