Mr Peter Godfrey Proved An Account Against Peter Gray for too Pound fower Shilling And fower Pence Halfe Peney Att a Courte held att the house of Capt James Cole the Second Tuesday of January 170? being for the prcint of Pequimons Prsent Capt Ralph ffletcher Judge Mr ffrancis fforster Captt James Cole and Mr Wm Bartlett and Captt Jno Stepney Pr Godfrey produces a Comiss to be clerk of the sd prcinct Court and is admitted Richard Woollard acknowledges a pl of Land to Thomas Hares his heirs and assigns forever. ffrancis Beasley acknowledges a pl of Land to Thoms Grey Ordered that ffrancis Beasley be made Surveyour of the High Ways—and Impowered thereunto Captt Jno Stepney is Sworne Commissr for the peace. Mgr Samuell Swann proves himself the Lawfull Attorney of Mr Jno Taylors by ye Subscripcon of ffrancis Toms Jur Ralph ffletcher ffrancis ffoster James Coles John Stepney William Barclift A Record of Pr Godfreys Commis to be Clerke of the prcinct Court of Pequimins proved ye 12th of Jany last Forasmuch as Capt John Stepney late Clerke of the Court of Pequimins prcinct is added to ye Comiss of the peace for the Same prcinct therefore out of the certaine knowledge I have of the ability & Integrity of Pr Godfrey Gent I do hereby appoint authorize and Impower him ye sd Pr Godfrey Gent to be clerke of the aforesd Prcinct Court and I do by these prsents authorize and Impower the sd Pr Godfrey to aske demand take & receive all legall & Just ffees profitts and Emolumts wtsoever to the sd place or office belonging or any wise Aperteyning and allso to take into his Custody possession and Care all and Singular the records papers and writings belonging unto the sd prcinct Court hereby revoking and making void any former Commiss for the sd office this Comisi to continue in force dureing my pleasure In testimony whereof I have hereunto putt my hand and Seale this 6th day of January 1702/3 Samll Swanne Secretary [Seale] A true Coppy of the Commisi for the Peace. North Carolina ss: Jno Earle of Bath Palatine and the rest of the true and absolute Lords proprietors of all Carolina Greeting To our trusty and well beloved Captt Ralph ffletcher Jno Barrow ffrancis ffoster Captt James Cole Captt Jno Stepney and Wm Bartlett Gent. being well assured of your Loyalty prudence & Integrity do hereby assigne and appoint you Justices of the Peace for the prcinct of Pequimins in the County of Albemarle Joyntly and Severally to keepe or Cause to be kept her Maties peace wthin the said Prcinct as allso to keepe or Cause to be kept all laws and Statutes made for the good governmt of this Country and you or any three of you whereof one of you Ralph ffletcher, Jno Barrow, ffrancis ffoster shall be one shall hold and keepe a Court for your said prcinct Seaven times every yeare viz the 2d Tuesday in the monthes of October, November, December January ffebruary March and August there to try by a Jury of twelve true & Lawfull men all Petty larcenies all unlawfull riotts and routes that shall committed wthin your prcinct and Judgemt theron to give to such paines and Penalties as by law is provided and allso do heare and determine all personall actions not exceeding the Summe of fifty pounds that shall bye Lawfull processe be brought before you and allso once every yeare viz the 2d Tuesday in the month of August you shall hold a Court for the tryall of all Causes perteyning to Orphans and their Estates wth full power to award processe heare and determine all and every matter cause and things for the disposall & reliefe of orphans and Secureing their Estate wthin your prcinct that shall be by Informacon plaint or any other ways or meanes be brought before you and a record thereof you shall cause to be kept of all ye orphans in your prcinct their Guardians the vallue of their Estates and what Security is given for the same wch you shall cause to be altered & renewed as often as you shall find necessary. This Comiss to continue during our pleasure.
