The Edenton Gazette, April 15, 1830 March 22, 1830
   MELANCHOLY OCCURRENCE -- MR. FRANCIS NEWBY of Perquimans County, received a 
kick on the head on the 22nd ult. from a horse which fractured his skull so 
badly that he died in three days after, leaving a widow and many friends to 
lament his death. MR. NEWBY was a soldier of the Revolution, and having 
escaped the bullets of the enemy in our struggle for independence and lived to 
the good old age of 73 years, was killed by a kick from his own horse.--
