Wills 1711-1909 C.R.077.801.1, Bateman, William. 1772 (Written 1771). North Carolina, Perqumins County, I William Bateman of the County and provence aforsaid Farmer being in perfect mind and memory thanks be given unto God for the same therefore calling unto mind the mortality of my Body and knowing it is appointed for all men once to Die Do make and ordain this my Last will and Testament that is to Say principly and first of all I give and Recommend my Soul into the hands of God that gave it and my body I Recommend to the earth to be Buried in a Christian Decent Bureal at the Descresion of my Executors hereafter named nothing Doubting but at the General Resurrection I Shall Receive the Same again by the mighty power of God and as touching Such worldly goods where with it hath pleased God to Bless me with in this Life I give Demise and Dispose of the same In the manner and form following _____ Item. I give to my son Benjamin Bateman T??lipe Of land on the Easternd Side of the plantation and Land he now lives on and joyning thereto: butted and Bounded beginning at a Beach in the fork of a Branch the upper side line formerly Clement Halls thence acros part of the Said Land By a Line of markit trees to a white oake markt with three chops By Estemation two acres thence acros the upper end of the plantation and land I now Live on By a line of markt trees a northe Cours to the new Road allso one negro Boy Called Luke and one negro man called tom allso one feather Bed and firneture and all my waring apparrel to him his heirs and assigns forever ______ Item. I give to my son John Bateman one negro man Called Jack and one negro girl Called Jane to him his heirs and assigns forever Item. I give to my son Joseph Bateman the remaining part of my plantation and land not heretofore given Whereon I now Live I give hiim allso a small track or parcel of Land Joyning to the West Side of the plantation I now Live on it being part of the Land that I Bought of Joseph pere Tho Juner I allso give him one young horse one feather Bed and firniture and one gun and one Chest one one Ironpot one Large kittle two prewter Dishes two pruter Basons Six peuter plates I allso give to him my negro woman Called Sarah and my negro girl Called Venus To him his heirs and assigns forever. I allso give him his freedom at my Death Item. I give to my wife Betty Bateman one negro woman Called Tamar and one negro Boy Called Isaac to her her Heirs and Assigns forever I allso give her the use of one third of the plantation and housen where I now Live During her widowhood and at her Marriage or if She Shall Die before She marry then to return to my son Joseph Bateman: I allso give her a small track or parcel of Land known By the name of Watsnicks During her natural Life and to the Heirs of her Body - Lawfully Begoten forever and for want of Such Heirs I give the Said Land to my son John Bateman and his Heirs and assigns for Ever ___ I allso give her one feather Bed and firniture Item. I give my negro girl Called Charity Both the use and Increas of her to Mary Bateman Daughter to my son John Bateman and to Betty Bateman Daughter to my Son Benjamin Bateman Both of them to have an Eaquel part - both of her Labours and Children and if either of them Shall Die Before they marry then for their part to fall to the other and their Heirs for Ever turn over Item. I give the use and Labour of my negro fellow Joe to my wife Betty Bateman During her widowhood and at her mariage I give the Said negro fellow Joe to my Son Joseph Bateman. Lastly Item. It is my desire that all my Just Debts Be Satisfied and paid and the Remaining part of my Estate Be Eaqualy Devid amongst my three Sons Benjamin Bateman John Bateman & Joseph Bateman and my wife Bateman to them their Heirs and assigns for Ever and Lastly I Do appoint my two Sons Benjamin Bateman and John Bateman and my wife Betey Bateman to be Exceutors to this my Last Will and Testament and I Revoke all other wills By me heretofore made ratefying and Confirming this and no other to be my Last Will and Testament In Witness Whereof I have hereunto Set my hand and Seal this Twenty third day of June 1771 William Bateman (x) Recorded in 1772. In the name of God Amen the 26th of August 1766 I Thomas Bateman of the Provence and county aforesaid farmer being in a Weake Low State of health but of perfect mind and memory thanks be given unto God therefore calling to mind the mortality of my body, and knowing that it is appointed for all men Onee to Die do make and ordain this my Last will and Testament, that is to say ??Eninciphally and first of all I give and Recommend my Soul into the hands of God that made iy and my Body to the Earth to be buried in a Deacint and Christian Burial at the deserection of my Executors hereafter named nothing doubting but at the General Ressurection I shall receive the same again By the mighty favor of God ________ And as touching Such worldly Estate where with is hath pleased God to Before me in this life; I give and dispose of the same in following manner and fore _____________ Imprimens??. I give and bequeath to my Grandson John Bateman one Bed and the furniture thereto belonging One desk one bason half a Dozen Spoons one Cow and calf one young horse one Ironpot and One Case and some bottles hereto belonging to him his heirs and assigns forever ______________ Item. My will and desire is that my Wife Sarah Bateman have the use of one third of my Estate that is not heretofore mentioned During her natural life and to be?? Returned to my son William Bateman and his heirs forever ________________ Item. My will and desire is that my Son William Bateman have the other two thirds of my Estate that is not heretofore mentioned to him and his heirs forever ____________ I do hereby make constitute and appoint my Loving wife Sarah Bateman and my Son William Bateman my Executrix and Executor to this my Last will and Testament and I do hereby utterly Disallow Revoke and disanell?? In the Name of God amen this Second day of July One Thousand Seven Hundred and Eighty I Benjamin Bateman being in sound mind and memory do make this my Last will & Testament as follows Item I lend to my wife Mary the use of all my lands and also all my Estate to her use During her widowhood and after marriage - my will and desire is my hole Estate ???? and Equally divided between my wife & four children to theirs and their heirs forever. Bateman, Jonathan, 1802 In the name of God Amen Jonathan Bateman of the county Perq being very sick but of a perfect mine and memory Praised be God do make this my Last will and Testament as followith the in/irimis. My will is that my funeral carges and other Just Debts be paid. Item unto my Loving wife Sarah Bateman four cows the choise of my Stock of Cattle also one Mare the above gifts to my wife She May Dispose of as She May think propper. Item Leave my son John Bateman Ten Shillings to him and the heirs of his body Lawfully begotten. Item I give my wife one feather Bed which I did not think of in the above gifts for her to Dispose of as She may think propper. All the rest of my estate shall be sold by my Excr and the money arising there from to be Eaqually between My wife and Two Daughters, Nancy Stone & Martha Bateman. Caritty??
