Maarbjerg In the Name of God Amen. This October the Twelfth Day in the year of our Lord Seventeen Hundred and forty Two I Mary Norfleet of Perq. County in North Carolina Being Sick and weak of Body but of Sound Mind and of a good Disposing Memory praise be to Almighty God for the Same. And Calling to Remembrance the uncertainty of this Transitory life and that it is appointed for all People to Submit unto Death when it shall please God to Call, Doe make this my Last Will and Testament in manner and form following. First and principally being sorry from the bottom of my heart for all my Sins hoping for pardon for the same in and through the Merits of my ever Blessed Savior and Redeemer Jesus Christ I give and bequeath my Soul to God who gave it me and my Body to the Earth from whence it was taken to be buried after a Decent and Christian like manner At the discretion of my Executors hereafter named, and Touching such worldly Estate as it hath pleased God of his good gifts and Great Mercies to bestow unto me I give devise and dispose thereof in manner and form following. It is my will and desire that such Debts and Duties as I am Equity or Good Confirmer Doe now to any person whatsoever be truly and honestly satisfied and paid within convenient time after my Death by my Executors hereafter named. Item - I give unto my Daughter Margaret Norfleet my Negro wench named Betty and her Increase I say to my Daughter Margaret Norfleet and her heirs for Ever. Item - I give unto my Daughter Phelisha Norfleet my Negro boy Cofer I say to my Daughter Phelisha Norfleet and her heirs for Ever. Item - I give to my Daughter Phelisha Norfleet one feather Bed and the furniture Belonging to it and a Grid iron and allso a black kid & two year old Heifer I say to my daughter Phelisha Norfleet and her heirs for Ever. Item - I give to my Daughter Margaret Norfleet one iron pot that holds about Six or Seven gallons and one iron Spitt and allso a Two Year old heifer and my horse bridell and Saddell I say to my daughter Margaret Norfleet and her heirs for Ever. But my will and desire is that if Either of my Daughters Margaret or Phelisha should Die before they Come of Age or marry then my Desire is that the other shall have the Before Mentioned Legacies. Item - I nominate and appoint my daughter Phelisha Norfleet and my friend James Sumner to be my Executors of this my Last will and Testiment in testimony whereof I hereunto Sett my hand and fix my Seal the day and year first above Written. Mary Norfleet (her mark) Signed and Sealed and by the Testator published and Declared to be her Last will and Testament in presence of us: Joseph Riddick James Gordon George Gordon Jun'r North Carolina Perquimans County At a Court held for the Said County at the Court house on Phelps Point on the third Monday in Jan'y anno Domini 1742 Present His Majesty's Justices(?) ...... may Certify that George Gordon Jun'r of the subscribing Evidence to the within Will appeared in .... Court and he hath on the Holy Evangelist sworn that he was present and saw Mary Norfleet sign, seal, publish & declare the within to be contain her last will and testament that the said Mary Norfleet was then at that time of Sound and Disposing Memory & that he also see John (sic) Redick & John (sic) Gordon the other Subscribing Evidences Sign their Names thereto at the same time. Then also appeared James Sumner Esq. Executor in Open Court and took the Ex'rs oath in due form of Law. Ordered that the Hon'ble Nath'l Rue(?) Esq. Secretary of this Province have Notice thereof that Letters Testamentary issue thereon as the Law Directs. Test.
