This Indenture made & indented this 7th day of Nov. in the Year of Lord one
thousand eight hundred & Twenty three between Solomon Cates of the County of
Person & state of North Carolina of the one part & Thos P. Evans & Laurance 
Vanhook Hargis of the same County & State aforesaid witnesseth that the said 
Solomon Cates for & in consideration of sum of one hundred & sixty dollars to 
him in hand paid by the said Evans & Hargis before the signing & sealing of 
these presents the Act which he the said Cates doth hereby acknowledge ___ 
gives, granted bargained & sold & do by these present give grant bargain & __ 
unto the aforesaid Evans & Hargis their heirs & assigns forever all & singular 
my right title & interest in a __ quarter Section of land in the Territory of 
Illinois No. 7664.  Being the North East quarter of section 6 of Township 13 
north in Range 4 East in the Tract appropriated by an Act of Congress granting 
land to the late Army(?) of the United States and since the 6th of May one 
thousand, eight hundred & twelve for Military Bounties in the Territory of the 
said Illinois & I the said Solomon Cates having obtained a patent for the 
before mentioned Quarter Section of land containing one hundred & sixty acres 
with all & singular the right & appurtenances thereunto belonging in any manner 
appertaining & all the rights title interest & claim of all persons whatever to 
have or to hold the Quarter Section of land as herein described unto the said 
T. Evans & Hargis their heirs & assigned forever & I the said Solomon Cates for 
myself my heirs & assigns will Warrant & ever defend the said title interest & 
claim unto the said Evans & Hargis.  Whereof  I the said Solomon Cates have 
hereunto set my hand & affixed my seal as date first herein written signed in, 
the presence of Solomon Cates {seal}

1823 The Execution of this deed was duly forever in open Court by the oath of 
Harris Wilkerson & on motion ordered  to be registered.

Researching Thomas Evans, born 1797 in NC, but don't think this is my Thomas.  
My Thomas Evans was in Henderson Co., TN by 1850.
