June 2, 1842      Charlotte Journal June 2, 1842
   CONVICTION AND PUNISHMENT FOR BIGAMY -- EDWARD CALLAHAM, charged with the 
crime of Bigamy, was tried before the Superior Court of Person County, (JUDGE 
DICK presiding) on Wednesday of last week. We learn that he acknowledged his 
guilt in the premises and threw himself on the mercy of the Court, which was 
extended to him in the shape of branding on the cheek with the letter B, two 
years imprisonment in the County Jajjil and three several whippings on his 
bare back. -- Danville Reporter
