This is an African American Cemetery located on the Oakly Road.  On left can 
see
tombs,but investigation it proved to be a large one that the forest had 
grown up.
There were a lot of sunken places and graves not marked.  Most of the people 
used
Flanagan & Parker as the funeral home.  Heavy forest debris may have covered 
some
of the graves. Lot of thorn, vines, but got as many as I could find. Martin 
County.

in the cemetery was planted by this Martha per family on 3-10-02.  It is 
protected
by a small tree kept trimmed to give it shade in the hot months.This Martha 
was the
love of his life.She married another man and he left NC and went to Texas. 
He
married a Martha Manning above.  When he was told that Martha Latham's 
husband was
dead he left immediately and rode his horse straight to where she was and 
they
married. Her first husband was Joseph R Whitehurst. A story told to me that 
day
by a family member living in the house.

Div.An American flag is put there by the Veterans.One was placed there that 
day,
3.10.02.The above lady told me this story of the young soldier.  He was just 
a
young man in his twenties when he died on the battle field. The treaty for 
the
end of WWI was being signed. It was at night and he lit a cigarette in the 
trench
and was shot and killed by the enemy.

From Bethel on 64 West, four miles, turn left on Porter Road. This cemetery 
is
located on the left near the highway about 3t0 4 miles.Fenced in. Located in

On Gum Swamp Road about 1.5 miles from the above church on the right is a 
small
fenced in cemetery.  Before I found this cemetery, I pulled away from the 
church
cemetery.  Should I turn left or right.  Right would take me home.  I didn't 
know
the territory to the left.  I tried to turn right, but a force turned me 
left and
I connected with these wonderful people. I can't let these souls be lost to 
modern
farming equipment.May they never stop connecting with me.  I will serach for 
them
as long as I feel their presence as I walk cold dusty fields when I see a 
group of
trees or a  space that looks like someone is there.  I will go, listen to 
the words
on grave markers as they tell me their secrets... and I'll share them with 
you.

is located about 6-7 miles on right way up in a field. It is fenced it. It

difficult to see it from the road. Crops hide it before harvest and it is

invisible to see in winter. Husbands and wives thatloved each other only to

beloved wife to complications of childbirth and a few weeks, monthslose the 
beloved
