Date: 5 Nov 1828 State of North Carolina} Pitt County} Know all men by these presents that I, Ira Cannon, of the said County hath bargained and sold unto Wilks Brooks, a certain negro man by the name of Catto, twenty-three years of age, for the consideration of the sum of three hundred and sixty dollars, to me in hand paid, the receipt and payment I do hereby acknowledge my self satisfied, contented, and payed, and for my seld and my heirs I do covenant and agree with the said Brooks that I will warrant and forever defend the write [right] of the said negro unto the said Brooks also I further agree to warrant the said negro to be sound and well and free from all claim or claims whatsoever. In witness whereof I do hereunto put my hand and seal this the 5th day of November 1828. Ira Cannon [seal mark] Attest. Francis Brooks November Session 1828 Then the above Bill of Sale from Ira Cannon to Wilks Brooks for negro man Catto was exhibited into open court and acknowledged in due form of law by Ira Cannon to be his act and deed.
