Know all men by these presents that whereas I, Thomas Cannon, in pursuance of an order from 
the County Court of Pitt at the November Term 1853, did advertise according to law, and 
expose to public sale at the late residence of John Cannon in Pitt County on the 3rd day of 
January 1854, certain negroes named  Bob, Martha, Mary, Henry, Fed, Judy, and Sally, and 
exposed them to public sale to the highest bidder, and cried bids upon them until no one would 
raise the bids of six thousand seven hundred and fifty-one dollars, which was made by Nancy 
Cannon. Now therefore know all men that I, Thomas Cannon, for and in consideration of the 
sum of six thousand seven hundred and fifty-one dollars to me well-secured to be paid before 
the sealing and delivery of these presents, I have this day bargained and sold unto the said 
Nancy Cannon to her, her executors, administrators and assigns the said negroes named Bob, 
Martha, Mary, Henry, Fed, Just and Sally, hereby warranting and defending the title to said 
negroes so far as my commission authorizes me to do, and no farther. Witness my hand and 
seal January 3rd, 1854.

August Term 1854. Then this bill sale from Thomas Cannon to Nancy Cannon was 
acknowledged in open court by Thomas Cannon as his act and deed. Let it be registered.
