Witnesseth that I the aforesaid Emily Carmon, for and in consideration of the natural love and affection which I have and bear unto my mother, the aforesaid Cordelia Carmon, and for an in consideration of the further sum of ten cents to me in hand paid, the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged, hath give, granted, bargained and sold, and by these presents doth give, grant, bargain and sell and convey unto the aforesaid Cordelia Carmon, her heirs, executors, administrators and assigns, the following described negroes, viz, one negro woman Becca and her two children Easter and William and her increase, and negro man Lumby, and negro boy Lefaett [Lafayette], and negro girl Betsey, to have and to hold unto her, the aforesaid Cordelia Carmon, her heirs, executors, administrators and assigns forever, the above described negroes, and I, the aforesaid Emily Carmon, do bind myself, my heirs, executors, administrators and assigns to warrant and forever defend the aforesaid negroes to be free and clear from the lawful claim or claims of any person or persons whatsoever. In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this the thirtieth of January in the year of our Lord 1837.
