All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/nc/ncfiles.htm ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by Carrie Fleischer - carriefleischer@hotmail.com Deed Book PP Page 382 Grantor: Cordelia CARMON Grantee: Emily LYONS Enslaved person(s): Martha, about 14 years old Date: 6 Feb 1858 Know all men by these presents that I, Cordelia Carmon of [the] County of Pitt and State of North Carolina, for the natural [love and] affection which I have and bear unto my daughter Emily [Lyons of] the County of Greene and State aforesaid, and also in [consideration] of the further sum of one dollar to me in hand paid by my daughter at and before the sealing and delivery hereof, the [receipt] of which is hereby acknowledged, have given, granted, bargained, [and] sold, and by these presents do give, grant, bargain, sell and [convey] unto my said daughter and the heirs of her body, a certain [negro] girl by the name of Martha, about 14 years of age, and all [her] increase from the date of this deed. To have to hold [said] negro girl Martha and her increase unto her, the said [Emily Lyons] and the heirs of her body, free from any and all incumb[rances what]soever, and not subject to the payment of any contract her[etofore] made by William Lyons, husband of the said Emily, or he[reafter] made by him the said William Lyons, and I the said Cor[delia] Carmon for myself, my heirs, executors, administrators and as[signs] agree to warrant and forever defend the aforesaid negro and [her] increase unto the said Emily Lyons and the heirs of her body, free from the lawful claim or claims of any and all persons, etc. In witness whereof, I, the said Cordelia Carmon do here[unto set] my hand and seal this the 6th day of February AD 1858. Then was this Deed of Gift from Cordelia Carmon to Emily Lyons exhibited [in] open court and proved by the oath of Edward Carmon, subscribing witness thereto. Let it be registered. Attest. H.
