Date: 21 Dec 1858 Know all men by these presents, that I, Cordelia Carmon, of the County of Pitt and State of North Carolina, for and in consideration of the natural love and affection which I have and bear unto my daughter Emily Lyons of the County of Greene and State aforesaid, and also in consideration of the further sum of one dollar to me in hand paid by my said daughter at and before the sealing and delivery hereof, the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged, have given, granted, bargained and sold, and by these presents do give, grant, bargain, sell and convey unto my said daughter and the heirs of her body, a certain negro boy by the name of David, about fourteen years of age, and also a certain negro girl named Sarah, aged about one year old, and all her increase from the date of this deed. To have and to hold said negroes David and Sarah, and their increase, unto her, the said Emily Lyons, and the heirs of her body, free from any and all incumbrances whatsoever, and not subject to the payment of any contract heretofore made by William Lyons, husband of the said Emily, of hereafter made by him the said William. And I, the said Cordelia Carmon, for myself, my heirs, executors, ad[ministrators] and assigns, agree to warrant and forever defend the aforesaid negroes [and] their increase unto the said Emily Lyons and the heirs of her body, free from the lawful claim or claims of any and all persons whatsoever. In witness whereof I, the said Cordelia Carmon, do hereunto set my [hand] and seal this the 21st day of December AD 1858. Cordelia Carmon [seal mark] Signed, sealed and delivered in the presence of Witness Joseph Dixon April 7, 1861. Then was the within [Deed] of Gift from Cordelia Carmon to Emily Lyons exhibited before me [and] proved by the oath of Joseph Dixon, a subscribing witness thereto. [Let it] be recorded. Attest. H.
