Know all men by these presents that for and in consideration of the sum of eight hundred 
dollars, to me in hand paid by Harriet Cox, the receipt of which I acknowledge, have bargained 
and sold to her the said Harriet Cox two negroes, a boy named Joseph, nine years old, and  girl 
named Susan, about seven years old, (now be it known by these presents that a lifetime right to 
myself is excepted to the above named negroes), and I warrant and defend the right to be good 
to her the said Harriet Cox, her heirs and assigns, against the lawful claim of any person 
whatever. In witness of which I here set my hand and seal the 25th day of February 1848.

Before me the Subscriber Judge of the Superior Court of Law and Equity in and for the State 
aforesaid, Abram Cox the party to the foregoing instrument of writing acknowledged the same in 
due form of law to be his act and deed for the purposes therein mentioned at Greenville, this 5th 
March 1850. Therefore let this deed and this certificate be registered.
