Know all men by these presents that for and in consideration of the sum of eight hundred 
dollars, to me in hand paid, the receipt of which I acknowledge by Martha Ann Cox, I have 
bargained and sold to her the said Martha Ann Cox two negroes, (with the exception of a 
lifetime rights to myself) a boy named John, eleven years old, and a girl named Elsey, five years 
old, and I warrant and defend the right to be good to her the said Martha Ann Cox, her heirs and 
assigns, against the lawful claim of any person whatever. In witness of which I here set my hand 
and seal the 25th day of February 1848.

Before me the Subscriber Judge of the Superior Court of Law and Equity in and for the State 
aforesaid, Abram Cox the party to the foregoing instrument of writing acknowledged the same in 
due form of law to be his act and deed for the purposes therein mentioned at Greenville, this 5th 
March 1850. Therefore let this deed and this certificate be registered.
