All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/nc/ncfiles.htm ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by Carrie Fleischer - carriefleischer@hotmail.com Deed Book OO Page 562 Grantor: Archibald FORBES Grantee: Alfred FORBES Enslaved person(s): Nettie, George, Martha, Harriet, Green and Jane Date: 7 May 1857 Know all men by these presents, that I, Archibald Forbes of the County of Pitt, State of North Carolina of the first part, for and in consideration of the sum of nine hundred dollars to me in hand paid by Alfred Forbes, of the same place, party of the second part, the receipt whereof is hereby duly acknowledged, hath bargained, sold, conveyed, and delivered, and by these presents doth bargain, sell, covey and deliver to the said Alfred Forbes, all the interest (it being a one fourth part in remainder) of the said Archibald Forbes in negroes Nettie, George, Martha, Harriet, Green and Jane, together with their increase, said negroes being those loaned by Will of Robert Forbes to Grace, his wife, during her life estate, afterward to go to his four youngest children, the said Archibald being one of which. To have and to hold the said interest of the said Archibald to him the said Alfred forever. And the said Archibald doth covenant and agree with the said Alfred and his heirs and assigns, to warrant and defend to him, the said Alfred, this said interest herein conveyed, against the lawful claims of any and all persons. In testimony whereof, the said Archibald hath hereto set his hand and seal this 7th day of May 1857. his Arch. x Forbes [seal mark] Mark Signed, sealed and delivered in presence of Jas. H. Forbes May Term 1857. Then was the forgoing bill of sale from Arch. Forbes to Alfred Forbes exhibited before me and acknowledged by the said Arch. Forbes to be his act and deed. Let it be registered.
