FRIZZLE Enslaved person(s): Grizzy Date: 4 Mar 1830 Know all men by these presents that I, Jonathan Frizzle of the County of Pitt and State of North Carolina for and in consideration of the natural love and affection which I have and bear unto my beloved son, Jonathan R. Frizzle of the County and State aforesaid, and for diverse other good causes and considerations, me hereunto [moving], and for the sum of one dollar to me in hand paid, the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged, have given, granted, bargained, and sold, and by these presents do give, grant, bargain, and sell unto my said son Jonathan R. Frizzle to him, his heirs and his assigns, one certain negro girl slave named Grizzy, and all her increase, to have and to hold unto him the aforesaid Jonathan R. Frizzle, him, his heirs, executors, administrators and assigns forever, the aforesaid negro slave Grizza [sic], and all her increase, and I the aforesaid Jonathan R. Frizzle do covenant and agree and bind myself, my heirs, executors, administrators and assigns to warrant and forever defend the aforesaid negro girl Grizzy and all her increase to the aforesaid Jonathan R. Frizzle to him, his heirs, executors, administrators and assigns forever against the claim or claims of any person or persons whatsoever. In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this the fourth day of March AD 1830. This 7th day of March 1833, before [me] Robert Strange, one of the judges of the Superior Courts of Law and Equity, in and for the State aforesaid, came William Clark, one of the subscribing witnesses to the within deed, and proved the execution thereof.
