This Indenture made the 4th day of 1802 between John Haddock of Pitt County and State of North Carolina of the one part and Admiral Haddock of the county and state above written of the other part witnesseth that the said John Haddock for and in consideration of the sum one hundred pounds currency to him in hand paid whereof I do here by acknowledge have granted sold a certain piece of land containing three hundred acres more or less beginning at a gum in the Clayroot Swamp then running with the said swamp to a line of marked trees then the marked trees to John Haddock line then with that line to David Suttons corner then up the Dup Hole Swamp to a corner there then with the Haddock line to the head of the Long Branch then with the Haddock and Puttnals line down to the Clayroot Swamp then round with the Haddock line to the beginning to have and to hold the said tracks of land to the said Admiral Haddock his Heirs and assigns and the said John Haddock for himself his heirs and assigns doth promise and agree, only I preserve my life time in the said land and my dear wife life time, equally warrant and defend the said to the said Admiral Haddock his heirs and assigns against the claim and demands of any and all persons whatsoever In witness whereof the said John Haddock hath persons whatsoever In witness whereof the said John Haddock hath there unto set his hand and seal the day and year above written.
