This indenture, made the Twenty Third Day of January in the year of our Lord, One Thousand Seven Hundred and Sixty Seven between John Haddock Junr. of the County of Pitt in the province of North Carolina, planter of one part and John Simpson Esq. of the county aforesaid merchant of the other part: witesseth, that for and in consideration of the sum of one hundred and twenty pounds proclamation money to the said John Haddock Junr. in had paid by the said John Simpson at and before the sealing and delivery of these presents the receipt and payment whereof is hereby acknowledged hath granted, bargained, sold, aliened, conveyed and confirmed, and by these presents doth grant, bargain, sell, alien, convey and confirm unto the said John Simpson Esq. his heirs and assigns forever one messuage or tract of land situate lying and being in Pitt County on the south side of Tar River and on the lower side of the Cross Swamp on the south side of Chicod Swamp containing 200 acres more or less beginning at a chestnut oak on one side of the Swamps of the Chicod running out 103rd Ft 260 poles to a pine then north 60 ft 200 poles to a stake at the outside of a pond thence 30 wt 160 poles to a pine then 160 west 200 to the pond thence 30 wt 160 poles to a pine then 160 west 200 to the pond then 30 wt 160 poles to a pine then 160 west 200 to the first station, it being part of a tract of land granted unto Simon Burney by pattent and by him conveyed by deed to Wm. Taylor Senr. and by Com. Taylor Senr. Conveyed by deed to his son Wm. Taylor Junr. dated in Sept 10, 1751 and by Wm. Taylor Junr. conveyed by deed bearing date Jan 22, 1767 to John Haddock Junr. with the appurtenances, situate lying and being as aforesaid, with their and every of their rights members and appurtenances whatsoever, and the reversion and reversions and remainder and remainders, of all and singular the said lands tenements, hereditaments, of all and sing ular the said lands tenements, hereditaments and premises hereby granted or extended to be granted and of every part and pracel thereof, and all rents, issues, services and profits to them or any of them, or any part or parcel of them in evident, belonging or appertaining; and also, all and every the estate and estated, right, titles, claims, interests and demands whatsoever of him the said John Haddock Junr into or out of the said lands tenements hereditaments and premisses whatsoever, hereby granted or mentioned to be granted or any of themor any part or parcel thereof. To have and to hold the said land, tenements, hereditaments and premisses hereby granted with their appurtenances to the said John Simpson Esq. hi heirs and assigns to the only proper use and behoof of the said John Simpson Esq his heirs and assigns forever. And the said John Haddock Junr. for himself, his heirs, executors and administrators, doth hereby promise confenant and agree, that the said John Haddock Junr. his heirs executors and administrators shall and will at all times warrant and forever defend the said premisses to the said John Simpson Esq. his heirs and assigns against all lawful claims or demands whatsoever, whereby the above mentioned premisses might or may be effected or encumbered contrary to true intent and meaning of the presents.
