ROUNTREE Enslaved person: Daniel, about 17 years old Date: 1 Nov 1824 State of North Carolina. Pitt County. Know all men by these presents that I, Francis Harper of the County and the State aforesaid, in consideration of the sum of four hundred dollars, [to] me in hand paid before the signing and unsealing of these [presents] have bargained, sold, and delivered unto Charles J. Rountree, [his] heirs and assigns, one negro boy named Daniel, about the [age] of seventeen years, which negro boy Daniel I do hereby [covenant] and forever defend against all the lawful claim [or] claims of any person or persons unto the said Charles J. [Rountree] his heirs, executors, administrators and assigns, and against myself, my heirs, executors or assigns, and against all [persons] whatsoever that shall come claiming the said negro boy Daniel [for the?] only proper use and behoof of the said Cahrles J. Rountree, his heirs, [executors], administrators and assigns forever. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my [hand] and affixed my seal this the first day of November, One Thousand Eight Hundred and Twenty-Four. Francis Harper [seal mark] In presence of us.
