Jenkins (deceased) Grantee: Caleb CANNON, Guardian for Rebecca Ann JENKINS (petitioner) Enslaved person(s): [Iv?], Tilda, Miles, Annis Date: 8 Mar 1849 Whereas Charles B.F. Jenkins died on the 9th day of August, one thousand eight hundred and forty-seven, and being intestate to an estate which descended to him by the death of his father, John Jenkins, deceased late of Pitt County. Whereas administration was granted to John C.C. Jenkins and in order that equal distributions should be made between the lawful representatives of the said Charles B.F. Jenkins, deceased, at February Term, One Thousand Eight Hundred and Forty-Nine, the worshipful Court of Pleas and Quarter Sessions held for the county aforesaid, did pass an order directing the said John C.C. Jenkins, Administrator of the said Charles B.F. Jenkins, deceased, to sell the following negroes, to wit, [Iv?], Tilda, Miles, and Annis, and upon the petitioners of Stanly Kittrell and wife Winifred, Major B. Smith and wife, Catherine, Irvin Jenkins, John C.C. Jenkins, and by Caleb Cannon, Guardian for Rebecca Ann Jenkins, in order therefore that said petitioners should receive each their proportional part of said negroes, I, the said John C.C. Jenkins, Administrator of the said Charles B.F. Jenkins, deceased, did duly advertise the same, and on the 8th day of March One Thousand Eight Hundred and Forty-Nine, agreeable to law did offer for sale negro girl Annis, aged about 8 years old, and Caleb Cannon appeared on the day of sale and bid two hundred and forty dollars for said negro girl Annis, he being the last and highest thereon, the said negro girl Annis was struck off to him at the above said sum of two hundred and forty dollars. Now know all men by these presents that I, John C.C. Jenkins, Administrator of Charles B.F. Jenkins, deceased, for and in consideration of the sum of two hundred and forty dollars, to me in hand paid by the said Caleb Cannon, his receipt I do hereby acknowledge, and by these presents have bargained, sold and delivered unto Caleb Cannon, his heirs, assigns, the before mentioned negro girl Annis, and I, John C.C. Jenkins, as well for myself as for the before mentioned heirs, will warrant and forever defend the said negro girl Annis to the said Caleb Cannon, his heirs and assigns, forever free against the lawful claim or claims of any and all person or persons whatsoever, so far forth as my office of Administrator requires, and no further. In testimony whereof, I, the said John C.C. Jenkins, Administrator as aforesaid, do hereunto set my hand and seal this day and date as above written. Ack. J.C.C. Jenkins, Administrator.
