Pitt County, NC - Henry Barnhill Jr. Military Record ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ PITT COUNTY, NORTH CAROLINA Henry Barnhill Jr. was a patriot in the Revolutionary War, enlisting at the age of 17 years old. Government Archives in Washington DC, Revolutionary War Files, file S 579-Military Pensions record group 15-A: Henry Barnhill enlisted in Martinsburg (later Greenville), Pitt county NC on Oct 1775 and served six months as a private under Captain James Armstrong’s Company “M”. They later joined under Colonel Richard Caswell’s NC Regiment during the battle of Moor’s Creek Bridge where the enemy was defeated. He later enlisted about May 1, 1778 at Martinsburg under Lt. A Spain and joined Captain Francis’s Company which again joined Colonel James Hogan’s NC Regiment, July 20 1778. He marched from NC to Philadelphia and West Point to serve under Col. John Meband. He was discharged May 4 1780 at Halifax, NC. He was allowed a pension on June 16, 1819 while a resident of Pitt County, NC giving his age as 60 years old.
