Pitt County, NC - Mildred Little War of 1812 Pension Application, 1879 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ [From the Tabitha Marie DeVisconti Papers, Collection No 480. Joyner Library, East Carolina University, Greeneville, NC] ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ State of North Carolina, County of Pitt SS: On this day of A.D. 1879 personally appeared before me, a Justice of the Peace, the same being a court of record within and for the County and State aforesaid Mildred Little aged 80 years a resident of Pitt County, in the State of North Carolina who, being duly sworn according to law declares that she is the widow of Bryant Little, deceased, who was the identical Bryant Little who served under the name of Bryant Little as a private or sergeant in the company commanded by Captain Micajah Pettaway, Regiment not remembered, in the war of 1812; that her said husband volunteered in Edgecombe County, at a date not remembered, and continued in actual service in said war for the term of four months, and whose services terminated by reason of an honorable discharge on the close of the war. She further states that the following is a full description of her said husband at the time of his enlistment, viz: 5 ft 5 in high, dark complexion, black hair, about 25 years old, a farmer from Edgecombe County. She further states that she was married to the said Bryant Little in the County of Edgecombe, in said State, on the 24th day of Feby. A.D. 1820 by one Seth Speight, was was a minister of the gospel; and that her name before her marriage was Mildred Ellis; and she further states that neither she nor her husband was ever before married, and that her said husband - Bryant Little - died in Greene County, in said State on the 13th day of November A.D. 1876, and that she has not again married; and she further declares that the following have been places of residence of herself and her said husband since the date of his discharge from the army, viz: Edgecombe, Pitt and Greene Counties. She makes this declaration for the purpose of obtaining the pension to which she may be entitled under Sections 4736 to 4740 (inclusive) Revised Statutes and the Act of March 9th, 1878, and hereby appoints Edwards & Albritton, of Snow Hill, North Carolina, her true and lawful attorneys to prosecute her claim; and she further declares that she has heretofore made no application for pension, and that her residence is in Pitt Co., State of No. Ca. and that her post office address is Marlboro, in said County and State. Attest: ______________ ______________ Also personally appeared aged years, residing in Pitt County, and aged years, residing in Greene County persons whom I certify to be respectable and entitled to credit and who being by me duly sworn, say that they they have known the said Mildred Little for years and for years respectively, that they were present and saw her sign her name (or make her mark) to the foregoing declaration; that they have every reason to believe from the appearance of said claimant and their acquaintance with hter, that she is the identical person she represents herself to be; and they further say that they are able to identify her as the person who was the wife of the identical Bryant Little who rendered the service alleged in the above application (in the Company of Captain Pettaway in the war of 1812) by the following named facts and circumstances, viz: and that they have no interest in the prosecution of this claim. ______________________________ ______________________________ Sworn to and subscribed before me this day of A.D. 1879, and I hereby certify that the contents of the above declaration & c., were fully made known and explained to the applicant and witnesses before swearing and that I have no interest direct or indirect in the prosecution of this claim.
