Pitt County, NC - Obituaries File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by Martha Mewborn Marble OBIT OF WILLIAM G. LANG This obit was probably found in a publication of the Disciples of Christ Church. W. G. LANG Farmville, April 1st 1904 Wednesday evening, March 30th, at 8:15, the spirit of Bro. William G. Lang took its flight back to God who gave it. The second Sunday morning of February last, Bro. Lang fell on the ice and broke his hip bone. Since then he has been a terrible sufferer until the death angel called him higher. Bro. Lang was born Aug. 1830, in Pitt County, NC. In 1855 he made the “Good Confession” and placed his name with Oak Grove congregation. The building being old, they decided to build then a new house of worship. As a result Corinth church was built.Bro. Lang’s membership has been with the congregation at Corinth until this past winter, when the Corinth congregation transferred their membership to the Farmville congregation. In 1869 he left his plantation and went to Marlborough to engage in the mercantile business. In 1872 he moved to Farmville where his home has been ever since. Bro. Lang was married twice. His first wife was Miss Ann P. Moye. They were married June 8th, 1856. She died September 28th 1883. He then married Miss Mary E. Hemby, May 20th, 1884. There were five children by first wife – all of whom are now living. They are Mrs. S. E. Joyner, how living at Littleton, NC; Mr. James A. Lang, of Greenville, NC; Mr. William M. Lang of Farmville, NC, Mrs. Fannie Joyner of Kinston, NC, and Mrs. Lula Mewborne of Kinston, NC. By his will it is shown that Bro. Lang, by careful business management, had accumulated about $75,000 worth of property, of which after providing for the remaining years of his wife, he divided equally among his children. The burial service was conducted by the writer, assisted by Rev. L. E. Sawyer, pastor of the Methodist church. Miss Annie Perkins of Greenville, had charge of the music, assisted by Miss Nannie Bassnight of New Bern; Miss Addie Tyson and Mr. J. T. Thorn of Farmville. His remains were laid to rest in the family burying ground on the old home plantation near the Old Corinth church. Bro. Lang was a devoted husband, a kind father, a respected and honored citizen, and a consecrated Christian; and in his death both the Church and town has met with a sad loss. But we all feel that our loss is his gain, and that he now rests from his labors, waiting the call to a happy reunion. Yours in Christ. A. F.
