Pitt County, NC - Obituary File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by Nancy L Pittman DISTRESSING CASUALTY As the wife of Mr. David Langley who resides in Pitt County, in the vicinity of Pactolus, was walking in her garden, on the evening of the 20th inst. she was struck by lightning and instantly killed. The electric fluid seems to have divided as it approached the earth, striking the limb of a small tree directly above Mrs. Langley, killing her and two hogs that were confined in a pen nearby, passing on and striking a tree forty yards distant, stunning several negroes that were contiguous. The deceased was an amiable woman in all the relations of life, a kind neighbor, a fond mother and an affectionate companion. She has left a husband and two children. Contributed by Nancy L.
