Pitt County, NC - Will of Lafayette Cox, 1922 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Will of Lafayette Cox State of North Carolina Pitt County I Lafayette Cox of the afore county and state being of sound minde but conceding the uncertainty of any earthly existence do make & declair this my last will & testimonial to my wife I appoint executrix to my will. First my executrix shall give my body a decent burial and pay all funeral expenses together with all my just debts out of the first money that may come into her hands belonging to my estate. Second to wife Bettie H Cox I give and bequeath my homeplace her lifetime bounded by the lands of A H Cox, R H Garris heirs, and J A Branches heirs and with A L Cox line a strait course as lie on the east side of the public road to J A Branches heirs line to hold as long as she lives. Third to my son Ray Cox, Larry Davis my grandson I give and bequest the above described real estate after the death of my wife. It is my will and desire that Ray Cox my son shall have the side with the buildings, line between Ray Cox and Larry Davis beginning at two pines at the J H Branchs line with R H Garris, J A Branches heirs line on the east sid of the Greenville and Kinston Road. To Larry Davis I give and bequeath the balance of my homeplace bounded beginning at 2 pines at J A Branches heirs line with Ray Cox line at two pines then strait to the didtch at the brige then with dich by the side of the path from the head of dich a stait line R H Garris heirs line A L Cox line Back to J A Branches heirs line back to the two pines on the east side of the Greenville Kinston road. It my will and desire that my wife shall have all rights and privilege as I appoint her my trusty worthy wife Gardian for my grandson Larry Davis. She is to sell the above real estate if she see that it is better for herself and Larry Davis. I impower her with leagal right to convey all rights, sign deed to purcher of this land. If she dies before Larry Davis is 25 years old and the real estate above is not sold he is not to come in possession until he is 25 years. He is to receiv the rent, she is to receive the income her lifetime. If she sells this land she is to use it as she pleases. At her death she is to leave the amount of money that the said real estate brought to him without interest. If she needs it it is my will and desire that my wife shall have the right to sell the portion of real estate at any time she sees fit that might be best for herself and my grandson Larry Davis. All other lands on the east side of Greenville road and Kinston I give to all my children to be equally divided, my wife a life estate on it. Larry Davis my grandson shall have a child’s part. I give one lot in the town of Ayden to my wife Bettie H Cox situated on Cannon St and Grifton St. no. 13 to have and hold the said tract of land and all privlages and appertenances thereto belonging. I Lafayette Cox give to wife Bettie H Cox her heirs and asigns I give all my personal property to my wife, this my last will and testimonial signed witnessed July 13, 1922.
