Written Nov. 5, 1856; Proven August Term 1859 In the Name of God Amen; I William Ross of the State of North Carolina and County of Pitt being of Sound and perfect Mind and Memory blessed be God do this fifth day of November in the year of our Lord One Thousand and Eight Hundred and Fifty Six make and publish this My Last Will and Testament in maner following, that is to Say (vz) first I lend to my well beloved Wife Rebecca Ross during her natural life Two Fether Beds and thear nessasery fernature, also all of My household and kitchen furniture also all of my meat and land my corn and fodder Ten fat Hogs of her choys. Two Horses of her choys, Two Sows and Pigs Two cows and caves all of my sheep, all of my farming utensals, also One gun Boat, one Cart, all of my pottery, also one Negro Man by the name of Sam, One Negro wom. by the Name Anacu during her life or Widowhood. Item. I give unto My Son William A Ross One Negro girl by the name of Mary and her increas after my deth. Item. I give unto My Son John L. Ross one Negro girl by the name of Tabitha and increase after my deth. Item. I give unto My Son James R. Ross One Negro girl by the name Ginney and her increase after my deth. Item. I give unto my Son Samuel R. Ross Negro girl by the name of Amey and her increas after deth, also one Fether Bed and its nessaccery furntirue, One Cow and Calf, Two Eves and Lamb, Six Stacks of Bees, also I leve in the hand of my Son Samuel R. Ross for the good maintainance and intreatment of My daughter Sarah Ross, One Fether Bed and its nessacery furniture, one chest, one Cow and Calf, Two Eves and Lambs, also one Negro boy by the name of Wilie, this property that I leve in the hands of my Son Samuel R. Ross is to be sold at her deth and equelly divided betwixt William A. Ross, John L. Ross, James Ross, Samuel R. Ross, Hannah E. Overton and Isebella Roebuck. Item. I give to My Daughter Hannah E. Overton one Negro girl by the name of Meriney and her increase after my death, also a Small Strap of Land Beginning at a poplar the said Hannah Overtons Corner Running A Strate Loin [line] to the Winn Loin thens [thence] with said Winns Loin to the Said Hannah E. Overtons Loin thens with the said Loin to the Beginning containing Fifteen Acres More or Less to have and to hold. Item. I give unto My Daughter Isebella Robuck One Negro girl Gatsy and her increas after my deth. Also this property that I lend to my wife at her deth is to be sold and of the Money arising from that Sale I give to my little grand Daughter Lemeryan Leviney Ross Three Hundred Dollars to be paid to her at the age of Twenty One years by my Executors if She is then living and if dead or at her deth this Money is to be divided Equally betwix William A. Ross, John L. Ross and James R. Ross, The residue of the Money arising from that Sale is to be Equally divided betwixt William A. Ross, John L. Ross, and James R. Ross; the property left out of this Will is to be sold and After paying my Just debts the residue to be Equally divided betwixt William A. Ross, John L. Ross, James R. Ross, Samuel Ross, Hannah E. Overton and Isebella Robuck and I hereby Make and ordain my Sons William A. Ross and Samuel R. Ross Executors of this My last Will and Testament in witness whereof I Set My hand and Seal the day and year above written. William Ross {Seal} Attest Jesse Barnhill John F. Court of Pleas & Quarter Session of Pitt County The foregoing paper writing purporting to be the last will & Testament of William Ross Decd was exhibited in open Court and duly proved according to Law by the oath of Jesee Barnhill & John F.
