E.H. Winningham The Standard of Raleigh: Aug. 27, 1862 DEATH OF LIEUTENANT E. H. WINNINGHAM A mother mourns the loss of her eldest son, but she sorrows not without hope. LIEUTENANT ELI H. WINNINGHAM, of Company I, 22nd Regiment, North Carolina Troops, at his country's call, left school and volunteered in the first company from Randolph County. He discharged his duties faithfully for 12 months; went through the Battle of Seven Pines unharmed, but through fatigue, he was attacked with billious fever and died at Richmond, Va., July 17th last, aged 22 years. He was a dutiful child, a professor of religion, and not afraid to die. His death is a great loss to his Ma, sister and brother.
