Joseph Potts, a Quaker from Randolph County, delivered an address in the Presbyterian church last evening on "Peace." He advocates arbitration instead of war at all times. He upholds his subject with strong arguments and in a very interesting way. Dr. Pool coincided with Mr. Potts' views in a short talk. Dr. Payne did not quite agree with him in every respect. He believed that a citizen should obey the civil authority, and if this ordered him to war, then the blame lay upon the govenment, and not upon himself. In reply, Mr. Potts said that the Christian law of peace should be above all other laws; that we should obey this law rather [than] the civil law.
