The Georgia Enterprise August 8, 1889
A Condensed Account Of What Is Going On Of Importance In The Southern States.
     Martha York, an old woman, was on Tuesday placed in jail in Randolph 
County, N. C., charged with murdering her grandchild, a boy eleven years old. 
While delirious the child said repeatedly that his grandma had beaten him to 
death. The child’s mother testified that its grandma was the murderer. There 
had been a quarrel in the family, and it is said the old woman whipped the boy 
with hickory switches until she fainted from exhaustion. The affair is creating 
excitement among the citizens.
