Care Center Bear Creek in LaGrange. Funeral rites will be held at 2 p.m. April 3 
at Church of Christ in Siler City; Ed Harris officiating. Burial will follow in 
Fairview Cemetery in Liberty. Born on Nov. 21, 1984, in Guilford County, d/o 
William E. and Regina Brown Harris II,. Surviving: her parents; brother, William 
E. Harris III; sister Faith Leigha Harris, both of the home; great-grandparents, 
Fred and Alice Jones of Greensboro; grandparents, Roger and Flora Brown of 
Pleasant Garden; aunts and uncles, Dennis and Amy Rhoton of Greensboro, Frank 
Pritchard and Jennifer Brown of Bennett and Roger Lee Brown of Greensboro. 

CEDAR FALLS - Gerald Lynn Welch, 54, departed this life on April 1st at his 
home. Graveside rites will be 2 p.m. April 4 at Patterson Grove Christian Church 
Cemetery; Rev. Danny Jarrell officiating. Surviving: wife, Janice Jennings 
Welch; son, Darryl Gilmore of Asheboro; daughters, Lisa Dawn Edwards of 
Coleridge, Michelle Lynn Dickey and Brandy Nicole Bedsole, both of Fayetteville; 
brothers, Gregg W. Welch and Thomas W. Welch, both of Thomasville; Jerry R. 
Welch of Daytona, Fla., Paul M. Rosales of McKinney, Texas, Jessie Todd and 
Stacey Todd, both of Salinas, Calif.; sisters, Kathy Diane Mohry of Walnutport,

SOPHIA - Edna "Sis" R. Walker, 72, departed this life on April 1st at Randolph

Friends Meeting Cemetery. Surviving: husband, Arthur Wade Walker of the home;

ASHEBORO - Addie Yow Moffitt, age 95, departed this life on April 2 at Clapp's 
Convalescent Nursing Home. Funeral rites will be April 4 at 2 p.m. at Pugh 
Funeral Home Chapel, 437 Sunset Ave., Asheboro; Pastor Howard Moffitt and Pastor 
Raeford Brim officiating. Burial will be at Pleasant Hill United Methodist 
Church Cemetery, Seagrove. Born November 13, 1909, in Seagrove, N.C., d/o the 
late Orlando and the late Jenny (Brown) Yow. Preceded in death by her husband, 
Fred L. Moffitt; and her three sons, Bill, Royce and Max Moffitt. Surviving: 
daughter and her husband, Dot and Jack Craven of Franklinville, N.C.; daughter 
and her husband, Rose and Charles Auman of Asheboro, N.C.; daughter and her 
husband, Jan and Tommy Tolbert of Lake Tillery, N.C.; daughter and her husband, 
Elda and Don King of Asheboro, N.C.; son, F. Jack Moffitt of Seagrove, N.C.; son 
and his wife, D. Rex and Shirley Moffitt of Asheboro, N.C.; 17 grandchildren; 17 
great-grandchildren; two sisters, Zada Spivey of Seagrove, N.C., and Vada Spivey 
of Raleigh, N.C.; and one brother, Cecil Yow of Asheboro, N.C. 

TRINITY - Mrs. Fadine McDowell Farlow, 91, departed this life on April 2 at 
Graybrier Nursing Center. Funeral rites will be at Marlboro Friends Meeting by 
at 2:30 p.m. April 4; Pastor John Sides officiating. Interment will follow at 
the Meeting House Cemetery.Born on August 14, 1913, in Guilford County, d/o late 
Gurney Edgar and Cora Jane Pierce McDowell. On January 7, 1933, she married 
Stanley E. Farlow who preceded her in death on Feb. 26, 2002. She was also 
preceded in death by two brothers, Winfred J. McDowell and Boyd E. McDowell. 
Surviving: son, Milford Farlow and wife, Linda, of Archdale; three daughters, 
Janice Hockett and husband, Stanton, of Randleman, Shirley Cecil and husband, 
Ray, and Wanda Peele and husband, Cliff, all of High Point; four grandchildren, 
Herschel Hockett and wife, Anne, Keith Hockett and wife, Betsy, Sharon Farlow 
and Jeffrey Farlow and wife, Leslie; seven great-grandchildren, Phillip Hockett 
and wife, Jennifer, Ella and Anna Hockett, Meredith, Benjamin and Andrew 
Hockett, and Ashlie Farlow.

TRINITY - Steven Eric Ward, 24, departed this life on April 2. Funeral rites

officiating. Burial will be in Floral Garden Memorial Park Cemetery.Born in High 
Point, s/o Jerry Doran and Barbara Mounts Ward. Preceded in death by his 
maternal grandparents, Louise and Clifford Mounts of High Point. Surviving: 
wife, Shelly of the home; his parents of Trinity; one daughter; four 
stepchildren, Christopher, Brittany, Andrew and Ashley all of Greenville; his 
brother, Kevin Doran Ward and wife Samantha of Trinity; paternal grandparents, 
Everett and Opal Ward of Winston-Salem; niece, Amy Lynn Ward; and nephew, Kevin 
Doran Ward Jr. 

ASHEBORO - David Robert Engel, 56, departed this life on April 2, 2005, at 
Staten Island University Hospital, Staten Island, N.Y. Memorial rites will be 2 
p.m. April 30 at New Hope United Methodist Church, Asheboro.Surviving are wife, 
Rose Mary Linton Engel of Asheboro; son, Phillip Engel of Asheboro; daughters, 
Michelle Tompkins and Elizabeth Gray, both of Asheboro; sister, Denise Cramer of 
Middle Point, Ohio; nine grandchildren.

LIBERTY - Gregory Dale Edwards, age 45, departed this life on April 3 at his

Methodist Church Cemetery. Surviving: wife, Cindy Rogers Edwards; mother, Carol 
Butler Shoe of Liberty; father, Troy Luke Edwards of Staley; daughters, Hillary 
Worsham and her husband, Greg of Liberty, Nicky Bullins of the home; son, 
Christopher Bullins of the home; brother, Troy Lynn Edwards and his wife, Ramona 
of Staley; grandchildren, Austin and Sarah of Liberty; and many nieces and 
nephews. 

Trinity - Mrs. Mabel Dewease Livingston, 94, departed this life on April 3 at 
Westchester Manor at Providence Place. Funeral rites will be 11 a.m. April 6 at 
Trinity Baptist Church; Rev. Ken Evans, the Rev. J.C. Alley and Rev. David Keith 
officiating. Interment will follow in Floral Garden Memorial Park Cemetery. Born 
Oct. 6, 1910, in Noxapater Miss., d/o Milton and Cora Adkins Dewease. In 1929, 
she married I.N. Livingston, who preceded her in death in 1978. She also was 
preceded in death by eight brothers and sisters. Surviving: two sons, Acey Hayes 
Livingston of Conway S.C. and Roger Leonard Livingston and wife Sylvia of 
Murrell's Inlet, S.C.; three daughters, Peggy Jo Patton and husband Ben of 
Lexington, Barbara Ann Laster and husband Gene of Trinity, and Amanda Lynn Queen 
and husband Roger Dale of Archdale; one brother, Herscel Dewease of Mississippi; 
one sister, Clara Butler of High Point; 10 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren 
and one great-great-grandchild. 

ARCHDALE - Mrs. Ruth Bullis Welborn, 93, departed this life on April 3 at High 
Point Regional Hospital. Graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in 
Floral Garden Memorial Park; Rev. Ben Hurley officiating. Born Oct. 3, 1911, in 
Wilkes County, d/o Lewis and Roxanna Elledge Bullis She was married to Alvin 
Taft Welborn, who preceded her in death. Surviving: four daughters, Wanda Casto 
and husband Jim of Buckhannon, W. Va., Donna Davis and husband Robert of 
Randleman, Ollie Weston of High Point and Joyce Clendenin of Wilmington; 10 
grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren.

ASHEBORO - Donald Walter Cole, age 75, departed this life on April 4. Born on 
Dec. 18, 1929, s/o Walter and Elizabeth Youmans Cole. Preceded in death by his 
son, D. John Cole. Burial rites Wednesday, April 6, 2005, at 1 p.m. at Oaklawn 
Cemetery; Willie Fox officiating. Surviving: wife, Donna M. Cole of the home; 
daughters, Sandra C. Thrasher of Brandon, Fla., Jane C. Brueilly and husband, 
Steve, Julie C. Wall, Jennifer C. Rich, all of Asheboro; grandchildren, Christin 
Bolden and husband Jerry, of Brandon, Fla.; Tyler Brueilly and Austin Rich, both 
of Asheboro. 

ARCHDALE - Price Burleson, 99, of GrayBrier Nursing Home departd this life on 
April 4. Funeral rites will be at 2 p.m. April 6 at the Thomasville Church of 
God; Rev. Ken Barnett and Rev. Avon Craven officiating. Burial will be in Floral 
Garden Memorial Park Cemetery. Born April 1, 1906, in Stanly County, s/o Ham and 
Ellen Burleson. On Nov. 22, 1930, he was married to Ruth Driggers, who passed on 
Oct. 11, 2004. Surviving are a daughter, Regina Gardner Brown and husband Don of 
Jamestown; three sons, Paul E. Burleson and wife Nellie of Sophia, Glenn M. 
Burleson and wife Ruth of Hampton, Va., and Robert E. Burleson of High Point; 12 
grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. 

ARCHDALE - Mrs. Mable Cranford Harvell departed this life on April 4 at her 
home. Graveside rites will be at 2 p.m. April 6 in Holly Hill Memorial Park 
Cemetery; Rev. Christopher C. Barrow officiating. D/O Sam P. and Lizzie Cranford 
Cranford. Preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Pete Cranford, who 
died in 1983. Surviving: husband, Wesley John Harvell of the home; one daughter, 
Mrs. Lakita Carden and her husband Mike of High Point; and two grandchildren, 
Lanee Carden and Michelle Carden.

ASHEBORO - Ora Ann Kearns Cagle, age 94, departed this life on April 5 at the 
home of her daughter. Born July 8, 1910, in Randolph County, the d/o William S. 
and Adline Newsome Kearns. Funeral rites will be April 7, 2005, at Pisgah United 
Methodist Church; Rev. Bill Foust officiating. Burial will follow in the church 
cemetery. Preceded in death by her husband, Howard D. Cagle; and her twin 
sister, Dora Strider. Surviving: her daughters and sons-in-law, Betty Jo and 
Harold Hogan of Asheboro, Helen and Earl Faircloth of Trinity, and Peggy and 
Billy McCaslin of High Point; her sons and daughters-in-law, James H. and Helen 
S. Cagle and David "Sonny" and Janice Cagle, all of Asheboro; grandchildren, 
Donna K. Teal, Karen L. Cabiness, Kim A. Lucas, Jeff H. Hogan, Milton H. Hogan, 
Randall McCaslin, Brenda S. McLean, H. Mark Nance, Bruce A. Nance, Donald D. 
Nance, Kelly Cagle, Connie Cagle, Diane Coley, Pat Jarvis, Phillip Cagle; and 23 
great-grandchildren. Mrs. Cagle is also survived by a sister-in-law, Myrtle 
Auman of Asheboro. 

ASHEBORO - Sanford Calvin Hughes, age 70, departed this life on April 5 at 
Randolph Hospital, Asheboro. Funeral service will be April 7 at 2 p.m. at Mt. 
Shepherd Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery; Rev. David Hunt officiating. S/O 
Sanford H. and Bessie Causey Hughes, who preceded him in death. Preceded in 
death by son, Jimmy Darrell Hughes in 1997. Surviving: daughter and son-in-law, 
Linda and Woody Sturdivant of Denton; son and daughter-in-law, Stevie and Bonnie 
Hughes of Sophia; brothers, Hurley B. Hughes of Sophia, Wilbur Hughes of 
Asheboro, Gary Hughes of Sophia; sister, Annie Mae Wootten of Sophia; and one 
granddaughter. 

LIBERTY -- Ralph Thomas McManus Sr., 82, departed this life on April 5. Funeral 
service will be 2 p.m. April 8 at First Baptist Church of Liberty; Rev. Tony 
Hall officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery. Surviving: wife, Estelle 
Marion McManus of the home; son, R. Thomas "Tommy" McManus Jr. of Liberty; 
daughter, Vicki M. Brower of Asheboro and Ocean Isle; sister, Ruby Pilson of 
Sanford; brother, Dr. Harold McManus of Georgia; four grandchildren; two great-
grandchildren. 

ASHEBORO -- Iona Hinson Gunn, age 93,departed this life on April 5 at Clapp's

at Pugh Funeral Home Chapel; Rev. Ray Lambe officiating. Burial will follow at 
Randolph Memorial Park. Preceded in death by her husband, Barney; her son, 
Larry; her granddaughter, Lynette; her mother and father and four brothers and 
two sisters. Surviving: son and his wife, Gene and Bobbie Hancock of Asheboro; 
daughter and her husband, Faye and John Jankovich of Arizona; six grandchildren; 
11 great-grandchildren. 

ASHEBORO - Everette Lee Brower, 84, departed this life on April 5 at Randolph 
Hospital. Funeral rites will be 11 a.m. April 9 at Oakland Baptist Church, 
Ramseur. Burial will be in Friendship Community Cemetery, Ramseur. Surviving: 
daughters, Sarah Greene of Seagrove, Golda Person of Asheboro, the Rev. Eva 
Curtis of Ramseur; son, Jessie Brower of Liberty; several grandchildren; several 
great-grandchildren.

will be in White's Memorial Baptist Church Cemetery. W/O Raleigh Allred.

Randleman; sister, Iona Harvell McDowell of Beulaville; brother, Eugene Harvell 
of Randleman; two grandchildren; one great-grandchild. 

ARCHDALE - Mrs. Annie Bell Wilson Pruitt, 85, of Archdale, departed this life on 
April 6 at Tru-Care in Archdale. Funeral rites will be held at 2 p.m. April 8 at 
Shady Grove Baptist Church; Rev. Bobby Blackburn and the Rev. Steve Smith 
officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Born Jan. 7, 1920, in 
Surry County d/o Charlie and Dora Goins Wilson. Preceded in death by her 
husband, Charlie Allen Pruitt, and four children, Bobby Joe Pruitt, Billy Allen 
Pruitt, Clarence Pruitt and Johnsie Cunningham and parents. Surviving: four 
sons, Claude Pruitt and Imogene of Trinity, Lawrence Pruitt and wife Janet of 
Archdale, Robert Pruitt and wife Ruth of Thomasville, and Joe Pruitt and wife 
Darlene of Trinity; three daughters, Lillian Olds and husband John of Pleasant 
Garden, Betty Owens and husband Mike of Colfax, and Louise Boles and husband 
Lawrence of High Point; four sisters, Betty Jean Lamb of Thomasville, Elanor 
Peace, Irene Shelar, and Edith Shelar, all of High Point; seven grandchildren, 
five great-grandchildren and 13 stepgrandchildren. 

PASADENA, Calif. - Maude Adelaide Patterson Venable, 75,died Apr. 6 in Pasadena, 
Calif. Memorial will be 3 p.m. Apr. 30 at Welch Memorial United Methodist 
Church, High Point. W/O Cleo M. Venable and a Randolph Co. native. 
Surviving:son, David Venable of California, Jon Venable of New Jersey; sister, 
Linda M. Patterson of High Point; seven grandchildren and step-grandchildren

RANDLEMAN - Frank Greene, 71, departed this life on April 7 at Randolph 
Hospital. Funeral service will be 3 p.m. April 10 at Pugh Funeral Home, 
Randleman; Rev. Jim Honeycutt and Rev. Jonathan Shook officiating. Surviving: 
wife, Edith Ann Greene; daughters, Deborah Holliday of Mt. Pleasant, S.C., Cathy 
Batson of Spartanburg, S.C.; son, Frank Greene Jr. of Rutherfordton; sisters, 
Nancy Strickland of Beulahville, Carolyn McKinney of Mooresboro; brothers, Cecil 
Price of Randleman, Bobby Greene of Marion; eight grandchildren; 12 great-
grandchildren. 

SOPHIA - Edna "Etoyal" Beeson Steed, 81, departed this life on April 7 at 
Graybrier Nursing and Retirement Center. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. 
April 9 at Gospel Baptist Church; Rev. Bobby Edwards and Rev. Frank Gribble 
officiating. Interment will follow in Floral Garden Park Cemetery. Born March 
20, 1924, in Randolph County, d/o H. Carl and Cora Loflin Beeson, who preceded 
her in death. In 1943, she married Cleo Steed who survives of the home. In 
addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers. Also 
surviving: sons, Sherrill Steed and wife, Maria, of Palm City, Fla., and Ken 
Steed and wife, Sandy, of Edgar Springs, Mo.; two grandchildren, Wayne Steed and 
Amy Yow; and three great-grandchildren. 

ARCHDALE - Ray Belo, 99, departed this life on April 7 at High Point Regional 
Hospital. Funeral rites will be 2 p.m. April 10 at Bethel-Glenola United 
Methodist Church, 3229 Old Glenola Road, Archdale; Rev. Charles Tyson, and Rev. 
Donald Weatherford officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. born 
Nov. 12, 1905, in Randolph County, to the late John Edward and Flora Moffitt 
Belo. His wife, Cozet Evans Belo, two brothers and three sisters, all preceded 
him in death. Surviving: five sisters, Annie Ruth Clinton of Sedalia, Ophelia 
Parker, of Trinity, Pauline Belo, of Archdale, Dovie Rush of High Point, and 
Hilda Rector and her husband Roy of Winston-Salem; one brother, Winfred Belo and 
his wife Glenna, of High Point, a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and 
friends. 

ASHEBORO - Mary Betty Knight, 70, departed this life on April 17, 2005, in 
Asheboro. Memorial service will be 3 p.m. Apr. 24 at Golden Gate Baptist Church; 
Rev. Dewey Cheek, the Rev. Ron Applegate and the Rev. Jack Wagoner officiating. 
Surviving are brothers, James F. "Buddy" Knight of Dyke, Va.; Larry Knight of 
North Carolina, Elden Knight of Fredericksburg, Va.; sisters, Ruby J. Shifflett 
of Stanardsville, Va., Ruth Knight of Dyke, Va., Ida McMullen of North Carolina.

Moses Cone Memorial Hospital. Memorial service will be April 11 at 7pm at George 
Brothers Funeral Service; Elder Johnny Ray Gardner officiating. Surviving: 
friend, Lois Tester; daughter, Lynn DeGenova; sons, Ray Crompton and Brian 
Crompton; and six grandchildren. 

ASHEBORO -- Amanda Lora Greene Heer Pickett, age 60, departed this life on April 
8 at her home. Funeral service will be April 10 at 4 p.m. at Center Cross 
Baptist Church; Rev. Justus McKeel officiating. Burial will follow in the church 
cemetery. Born on June 21, 1944, in Randolph County d/o Lonnie and Blanche King 
Greene, who preceded her in death. She was preceded in death by her husband, 
Warren N. Heer. Surviving: sister, Faie Dunn of Asheboro; brother and sister-in-
law, Bud and Betty Greene of Asheboro; sister-in-law, Carrie Greene of Asheboro; 
and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Hospital. Burial rites will 3 p.m. April 10 at First Baptist Church; Dr. John 
Rogers officiating. Surviving: wife, Lillie B. Thurston of Asheboro; son, 
Michael T. Thurston of Granite Falls; daughter, Kim Thurston of Asheboro; two 
grandchildren; two great-grandchildren. 

RAMSEUR -- Glenda Ann Macon Moffitt, 69, departed this life on April 8 at Duke 
Medical Center, Durham. Funeral service will be 4 p.m. April 12 at Shiloh 
Baptist Church; Rev. Bruce McLanahan, Steven Craig Kivett and Kenneth Symes 
officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Surviving: husband, Terry 
Moffitt of the home; son, Corbin P. Moffitt of Ramseur; daughters, Terrie M. 
Caspi of London, England, Marlene M. Sanford of Greensboro; sisters, Georgia 
Spruill, of Virginia Beach, Va., Charlotte Kivett of Franklinville, Laverne Legg 
of Denver, Colo., Sandra McGee of Ramseur; one grandchild. 

RAMSEUR - William Ray York, 72, departed this life on April 8 at Wesley Long 
Hospital, Greensboro. Funeral service will be 2 p.m. April 11 at Whites Chapel 
United Methodist Church; Rev. Steve Roberts & Rev. Mark Ainsworth officiating. 
Burial will be in the church cemetery, with military honors by the Randolph 
County Honor Guard. Surviving: sons, Danny York, Randy York and Tony York, all 
of Asheboro, Ronnie York and Johnny York, both of Ramseur; daughter, Candace Y. 
Kidd of Asheboro; brothers, Joe York of Asheboro, Gary York, Ervin York, J.C. 
York, Roger York and Kenny York, all of Ramseur; sister, Linda Moore of Graham,

RAMSEUR - Kayla Denise Wall, 15, departed this life on April 8 at Randolph

will be in the church cemetery. Born February 2, 1916, in Stokes County, s/o 
Betty and Everette Chilton. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his 
sisters, Rosabell Flippin, Mary Stevens, Kate Poole Bolik and Lucy Joyce; and by 
his brothers, Troy Chilton, Thomas Chilton, Arthur Chilton, and Graham Chilton. 
Surviving are wife, Loucilla Brady Chilton of the home; daughter, Ronda Wagoner

TRINITY - Mrs. Myrtle Edna Rose Ford, 89, of GrayBrier Nursing Home, departed 
this lie on April 28. Funeral will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday by the Rev. Jimmy 
Dillon. Burial will be in Guilford Memorial Park Cemetery. Born Sept. 21, 1915, 
in Baileysville, W.Va., d/o late Franklin and the late Dorcus Lester Rose. On 
April 7, 1934, she was married to William E. Ford, who died Sept. 18, 1979. In 
addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Bill E. Ford on 
Nov. 31, 1991, and by all nine of her brothers and sisters. Surviving are four 
daughters, and sons-in-law, Betty and Kelly Sizemore of Greensboro, JoAnn and 
Dave Brown of Fairfax, Va., Juanita and Dewey Patton of High Point and Sandy and 
Tom Smith of Trinity; a daughter-in-law, Joyce Ford of McAlester, Okla.; two 
sisters-in-law, Imogene Rose of Briar Creek, W. Va., and Fay Rose of Pineville, 
W.Va.; 11 grandchildren, Steve Ford, Michael Ford, Sherry Alessi, Kelly R. 
Sizemore, Beverly Sizemore Rappleyea, Belinda Sizemore Hendrix, David Brown, Rob 
Brown, Angie Patton Smith, Thomas Smith, and Amber Smith Gates; 15 great-

Memorial Hospital. Born October 26, 1936, s/o late Henry Johnson York Sr. and

Rowayton, Conn., Jeanie York Eastman of Pinehurst and Henry Johnson York III of 
High Point; three grandchildren including, William Robert Eastman Jr., Jennie
